Yeah I sneak through everyone's houses and pockets in Skyrim and take anything that isn't nailed down (and have been known to save scum because I can't handle having a bounty), but I'm more 'chaotic good/neutral.' I can do some killing here and there, but not if it's morally ambiguous or you're killing someone innocent.

There's one particular Skyrim-related quest that has two options: Save a woman from the group looking to capture her or bring her to them. Both claim to be right. I looked it up online and it turns out you can't find out who's telling the truth. So I refused to do that mission because I was afraid to betray her if she was innocent. My boyfriend could not convince me that she was just data.

Actually, irrc there are hints that they're both lying. That she did actually do something wrong [despite her claims otherwise] - but not what they claimed she did*.

*I don't remember the specifics on the hints, just that they're there. Sorry!

That makes me feel a tiny bit better. But I still avoid her like the plague.

AYRT

Honestly, so do I, but I do it more out of sheer annoyance at the quest. -shrugs-

theres evidence that saadia's story was complete bullshit, namely that she claimed she didn't know the alik'r were in town and yet knew the whiterun dungeon contained a recently captured alik'r warrior, and iirc the lore between the aldmeri dominion and the alik'r makes them staunch enemies, which is reinforced by kematu's story and makes saadia's overly suspect.

kematu explains that he wants to bring her back alive to face punishment though so i guess you have to decide if whatever they might have planned for her is justified in light of her treason (apparently you can find an urn named after her in whiterun if you complete the quest in the alik'r's favour).

plus saadia's story's inconsistencies might just be oversights on the writer's part and not indicative of anything canon

Same! Skyrim, I pretty much stole everything I could carry. I got into Elder Scrolls first through Oblivion and I was terrified of breaking the law, so I never did, but by Skyrim I pretty much walk right by the residents of the house, say a greeting, then raid their wardrobes in the next room.

But killing, idk. A quick assassination isn't so bad, but when you have to emotionally confront the NPC, I can't do it. Like if they beg you not to kill them, ask for mercy, and so on. Nope, nope, nope.

For what it's worth, though, I think that woman in the quest you were talking about is guilty. I wasn't sure what to do either, but she just seemed a lot more hostile, and while she claims that those guys are assassins who want to kill her, they never actually do, they just paralyze her to bring her back home for justice (I don't think they even claim they will execute her). And her not going to the Jarl for help seemed fishy, too, she said the Redguard dudes would just bribe guards to get her, but they can't even successfully get into the city.

I love ambiguity in stories. But I hate playing them in RPGs, lol. I want to play the "best" way. :P

I might do that quest one day for 100% (or close to it anyway). But... I can't even join the Imperial side because they seem like bigger assholes than the Stormcloaks. I have like six different files and while I often just ignore the main questline, I'm never with the Imperials. I hate moral ambiguity and I hate not being on the side of justice. And Skyrim is all about everyone having good points and bad ones.

Oh haha my first Skyrim playthrough I was like 100 hours into the game before I finally committed to Stormcloaks or Imperials. I've been told it doesn't matter too much in the endgame, just changes the details of the world. But the Stormcloacks are racist, xenophobic assholes, and the Imperials are oppressive assholes. In the end, my character picked Stormcloaks because she was a Nord, and I realized the Imperials are the ones who almost execute you in the opening scene. My second playthrough was a Dark Elf, and then I realized Ulfric pretty much despised dark elves. He was all like, "I'm going to get rid of all the damn elves in this country! Wanna join the Stormcloaks? :D" and that was when I went Imperial. haha

It's like picking mages or Templars in DA2. You don't really like either side but the game makes you choose anyway. lol I'd seriously pick a more difficult, time consuming third option if it were only available.

It's all about the lesser of two evils. Stormcloaks are racist but like... You can join no matter what race you are so there's implications that it might be able to get better one day.

I'm just caught up on 'YOU CAN'T JUST FORBID PEOPLE FROM WORSHIPING PEOPLE YOU DON'T LIKE.' Which is really weird considering I'm an atheist-leaning agnostic.

Honestly, the whole "WE WANT TO WORSHIP TALOS!" thing just makes me roll my eyes a bit since, not even 200 years before when Skyrim takes place the Nords were actively making fun of the Imperials for worshipping Talos.

...Also, because they don't seem to get that the Empire [from what can be seen] doesn't actually want to ban the worship of Talos - but since it was a choice between "extending the war [and leading to a lot more bloodshed, destruction and death]" or making a peace and banning the worship of a god for a time to appease the other side? I think the Empire made the right call, particularly since they'd been losing badly enough that they most likely wouldn't have won.

...Also because the whole "let anyone join" tactics is pretty common if you look at history and well...It rarely leads to equality for the group being discriminated against, and frequently actually leads to worse discrimination [since they don't need said group's help anymore].

Yeah, see, this is the kind of thing I would know if I a) had played any previous games and b) would stop getting distracted by fifty thousand side quests and go do the main plot.

Eh, the part with the Nords not worshipping Talos probably, yeah. But the history thing is just pattern that happens over and over in history [real world history, but to some extent the game history too, iirc.]

That said, I'm sorry if I came across like I was bashing the stormcloak side? I didn't mean that - just that those were the reasons I generally don't side with them.
