Thank you for being on the front lines in developing medicine that humanity vitally needs. I'm sorry you have to be the one to kill your test subjects.

(My sister needed to kill rats as part of a program that was developing Alzheimer's medication. Weighing the extremely short lifespan of a rodent against a possible cure for a disease that is so horrific, I think I know where I stand on the issue.)

Seriously. My Grandpa got Alzheimers, and watching him disappear (and watching my Grandmother try to take care of him/waste away) was one of the hardest things any of us have had to go through.

I love rats/mice, and I'd love to have them for pets someday, but you know what? I am, and always will be 120% okay with using them for medical* research for as long as they are what we have. Maybe in the future we'll be able to create better alternatives, but until we do...

* Medical only really, I'm not comfortable with using them for cosmetic testing.

but people with alzheimers are old anyway, they will die soon, who cares?

I don't even think they are still around, but some dick once managed, almost certainly by accident, to say something while attacking me that directly corresponded to a friend's problem they had at the time. That's vague, but that's all i'm giving on the off chance that person is still around.
