Yeeeeaah, I felt that Usagi looked way too beautiful and ladylike and not flaily enough. I mean, come on, her ridiculous expressions and flailing are such a huge part of her character!

In the OLD anime. Not so much in the manga. She wasn't nearly as flaily and silly faced looking in that than she was in the anime. They bumped it to max in that old show, for whatever dumb ass reason.

I reread it a weeks ago AND watched what's up on hulu. She's far more understated in the manga. And I prefer that so much more.

Maybe, but way more flaily than in Crystal. I re-read the manga recently too. And people have been making side by side comparison posts all week.

Yeah, she just didn't feel like Usagi to me. Usagi is supposed to be a childish, klutzy crybaby at the beginning, and even in the scenes where she was supposed to be upset or flustered, she came across as far too poised/understated.

The fact that she's a whiny crybaby with zero poise at first is what makes her development so striking imo.

Da. I agree with this a lot. Part of what bothers me with the lack of expression in the first episode is that it's IMPORTANT for Usagi to be that silly crybaby of the character very early on, because she's going to change fast.

For all the manga purists out there, the original anime was actually closer expression wise in the first episode then Crystal wise. There is a comparison post going around showing just how different Crystal is, I wish I had saved it because it really points out how much the art deviated in Crystal.

YES that was another one of my major issues. The voice acting would be all squealy and whiny, but then her facial expressions wouldn't match the tone.
