Harry Potter

Captain Kirk (love the man, but i feel he is)/Spock as well.

Thrall and King Varian

Most of the major Big Name Shounen Anime dudes over the years

same applies to most if not all of the main dudes in most Western Comics, especially in Dc and Marvel.

Harry does stupid things and gets called on it. So does Kirk. Harry also would have been dead numerous times without Hermione and sometimes Ron.

I suppose it depends on your definition of Sue. To me Sue has always been about never being wrong in canon even when they actually are, always having the solution for everything and solving everything.

Hey, I like those characters, but I do feel that they are a Stu in their own way.

Agree to disagree.

What makes a Stu/Sue to you?

Yes but Harry also is magically (pun harhar) good at a sport he's never heard of on a device he's never used. He's able to use extremly powerful magic and even teach it to others. He's literally destined to beat the big bad baddy. Idk.

I don't think destined to beat a bad guy in a fantasy universe is a sue trait. Because that is pretty much standard for most fantasy fiction. And being good at one trait doesn't make him a sue since he only is really good at that one thing. He isn't particularly gifted at anything else. He just happens to be good at a sport his father also played.

I don't know. I feel like people call sue too easily. Of course the hero is going to be the center of attention and be the one to defeat the bad guy and have some sort of special abilities. That is just normal. I think you need more than that if you are going to call any character, particularly the main one in a fandom, a sue.

Also , according to stuff in book 7 , when he was very small he had a toy broom he played with. So it's not exactly like he never did it before. It's more like him subconsciously picking up something he did very long ago?

Meh, Harry Potter has some Gary Stu qualities -mostly in that external forces treat him as "special". But I don't think he's a Stu. He's a jock. Gets so-so grades, constantly requires his friends and mentors to save his skin, and he's not even that great at most things. Besides Quidditch, he doesn't really excel, and the narrative never pretends he does. More than that, he's not really handsome or cool looking - he's constantly described as scrawny and with dweeby glasses.
