I hate the name Piper. It rhymes with Diaper and reminds me of plumbing and annoying little creatures that won't shut up - always "piping up."

HORRIBLE name, and I wish fandom didn't encourage it.

HORRIBLE name, and I wish fandom didn't encourage it.

But it's her name. How is fandom encouraging it?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not the actress's name. It's the character's name. The writers could have chosen something better.

She is a real person....

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
But the book it's based on is by a woman named Piper, and the character is based directly on her.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you really this dumb?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-17 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
lmao, what? Even if she wasn't based on a real person, did that sentence mean what I think it meant? "I hate the fandom for calling this fictional character by the name they were given by the writers" what the dick man.

Are you the anon who takes umbrage with character names? Were you the one who complained about Londo and Raylan?

Hey, I used to be in the "naming" fandom, so I get it... kind of? I mean, if you want to legit talk about names I can rec you a site where you can express your displeasure without derailing threads with drivel.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like stupid names. I don't like seeing them in fiction unless there's a good reason (say, the character's parents are the type of idiots who would choose such a name - I've seen this done well, before). I don't like when dumb crap like Piper becomes trendy in real life. Would you want to be named Piper and have kids calling you Piper Diaper forever?

God, you sound so young. I'm going to guess 15-17. I've been there, kiddo. It gets better. Enjoy: http://bigbadbabynames.net/forum/index.php

"Piper Diaper" specifically sounds like something a really mean 8-year-old would come up with. The solution: let's all name our kids Orange!

God forbid your surname rhymes with anything!

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Piper is a real name. That a real person has. Grow up a little.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a real SURNAME. That some IDIOT decided to use as a first name for their baby. And they aren't the only ones to have committed this atrocity.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahahaha. I think you may need some fresh air, anon. Or yoga.

Let us remember that the idiotically named must also be represented in fiction land for equality and stuff. It's an issue that there are so many john joe geraldos, man.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-16 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
...It's been first name for a very long time anon. You need to get off the internet.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-17 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well if it annoys you that it was a surname that became a first name, shall we also get all up in arms because Ashley was originally a man's name and now is used for girls 99% of the time?

Or that I know a bunch of Smiths and not a single one - not a one! - is a blacksmith? Same with a few Kings (none of them I know are royalty), some Banks...

I could go on but I think I've made my point.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-17 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Actually Ashley was originally a surname before it was a male name, and honestly if it MUST be used as a first name, I would rather it not be on a girl. It doesn't annoy me as much as Piper and some other surnames as first names (or boy names as girl names), though.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-17 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't know it was a surname, but I'm not surprised.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-17 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Dear God you're awful. I used to hang out on a name forum full of people like you and they're the reason I left.

Where I live, Ashley has been a girl's name for so long that the one boy I ever knew named "Ashley" always went by Ash and we all assumed that was his full name until someone found out from the camp roster. Then we all thought it was really weird because we had never heard of Ashley being a boy's name. When something is so old that kids don't know about it, it's time to accept that it's not the done thing anymore.

While I may make pained noises in my head when I hear that people have named their children this, that, or the other name that doesn't fit my particularly individualistic schematic of Good and Lawful Names, Let Me Show You Them, I rarely allow those pained noises to escape into the open air.

Because I don't want to look like a judgmental type of name police fanatic, possibly.

And because I'm also aware that someone, somewhere, might be laughing themselves sick over my name.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-17 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
hey here's a good reason: The show is based on the memoir written by a woman named - wait for it - Piper. Shocking!

(Anonymous) 2014-07-17 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I like the name Piper. I think it's cute.

And I'm gonna assume you're trolling, or completely oblivious to the fact that Piper is named after the real Piper who wrote a memoir about her time in prison, titled - wait for it - Orange is the New Black.
