And I'm gonna assume you're trolling, or completely oblivious to the fact that Piper is named after the real Piper who wrote a memoir about her time in prison, titled - wait for it - Orange is the New Black.

Well, Alex is considerably "edgier" and less white-bread than Piper, so I can see how people could like one and not the other.

(Personally, I'm the opposite - I sympathize with Piper waaaaaaaaay more than with Alex.)

Me too! I can't stand Alex. She's one of those people who think that because she recognizes she's a shitty person, that somehow loops back around to make her morally superior to everyone else. Nope, sorry, it just makes you a shitty person who knows they're shitty but can't be bothered to do anything about it.

I just can't like Alex because she is so damn manipulative. That episode where her Mom died and Piper didn't stay with her? Everyone acted like this was supposed to show how cold an callous Piper was, but if someone in say, F!S wrote a thread saying, "My partner has gotten deep into a dangerous lifestyle I just can't live with, and I was going to leave her (even though she hid my passport so I couldn't go home!) but her Mom died and now I don't know what to do", we'd all be yelling, "TOXIC. GET OUT NOW. YOU CANNOT LET HER PROBLEMS TAKE YOU OVER."

It was unfortunate timing, but there was no way that Piper was getting out of that relationship if she didn't go right then. And Alex could then hold "MY MOM DIED AND YOU LEFT ME" over Piper's head forever.

Ugh... did not know that about season three. And here I was happy that there relationship was finally getting dialed down a tad.

Seriously who cares about Piper and Alex when we could have some as epic as Red vs Vee again?

Ha I really liked them together in prison though, especially since Piper had lost a lot of the fawning. Character-wise, they're not my favourites, but their romance (or eventual further failure) is the one I'm invested in. And now that Piper is willing to play dirty and [all words that also mean sex] her over or "look out" for her, I'm getting exciiiiiteeeeed ♥

For me, Alex is just much more interesting to watch. I prefer characters that are horrible and manipulative over those who are whiny and bland. I think you're referring to if someone personally agrees with Alex over Piper, though, in which case, I am with you, OP.

Alex is straight up manipulative and toxic.

I love Piper but the worst part of her character is easily her relationships with Alex and Larry. I'd much rather see her relationships with her family or the people in the prison.

I thought that Laura Prepon was done with OITNB because of her wacky Scientology stuff that didn't allow her to portray being a lesbian? Either way, I'm glad to see her come back.

I hadn't heard that she was coming back for S3 but that's really exciting. Alex is my favourite character on the show (I don't need to think a character is right to enjoy them).

I like Piper too though, particularly in what I've seen of S2, so hopefully I don't confuse the OP. And I quite like their relationship!

I think of it this way, if it was Piper without Alex, then Piper would (is?) still be uninteresting and annoying. If it was Alex without Piper, I could probably tolerate her. Although, it'd be like having 2 Nickys. Could be bad, could be good.

I like both Alex and Piper. I don't think they're boring at all. I can't see what is unlikable about Piper. And Alex has flaws, but that makes her character interesting. And I like their romance just fine, one of my favorite parts of the show is their interactions, so yeah.
