(Anonymous) 2014-07-18 04:26 am (UTC)(link)This has nothing to do with John Hurt who is a great actor: but he just didn't make sense in this role. He throws off the numbering in a way that makes no sense: I already hated the whole Tenth regenerating into himself.
And should that little trick have that thrown off the numbering too? Seriously, the cycle is not 13 anymore, now it's 15? It's like TPTB have never heard of consistency... I know it's nit picking, but they are the ones who insisted on all these stupid details that make no sense and then trample all over their own continuity: they just do not respect the internal consistency of their own show or the viewers' intelligence, which makes it hard to care for the show and the characters.

Basically Moffat basically turned one whole life into a Noodle Incident and sacrificed another to retcon just so he could play with the drama of "Oh! The Doctor is dying and this time it's his last!".

That Moffat acknowledged them at all is a giant nod toward the idea of continuity.
(And we can just not talk about the Valeyard.)
