Is this is Firefly? I downloaded Firefly like a month ago and still haven't gotten off my ass to watch it, is it really as good as people say, or is it good the same way Buffy was good - entertaining, cool females, but ultimately not something you'd recommend to your parents?

I watched and liked it, and then re-watched it together with my dad. Including the Serenity movie. He was disappointed that there wasn't another season. *g*

It's not the greatest most amazing life-changing thing ever, like some folks say it is. It's a cool science fiction show with a deliberate "Space Western" vibe, some really good character dynamics, and some terrific storylines. Some episodes are stronger than others, but hey, that's every show.

For me the novelty wore off pretty fast and it's not something I need to rewatch but I enjoyed watching it the first time.

delete it, save yourself the trouble of watching such a poorly-written show

your butthurt is showing

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you retarded? So someone disliking a show you like = they must be butthurt? End your life, please.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Now your butthurt is REALLY showing. Suicide demands and dropping a "retarded", well done.

You're the only one who can answer that OP. Some people love it, some people hate it. Try a couple of eps. If it's not your cuppa, move on to something else.

Also, I did recommend it to my mom, but she's a geek, too.

Mmm. It's... hmm. I probably would have liked it more if it hadn't been so hyped, tbh. I was disappointed, because while I liked it, I didn't think it deserving of the hype. Same is true for GOT and Harry Potter for me. Firefly's not bad, there's a lot I liked about it, but I was definitely expecting more. I'd suggest going in expecting something good, watchable, characters you'll probably like, but not OMG THIS IS A RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE levels of omg good. (No, really, I did have more than one person who told me watching it was a religious experience for them. That's probably a whole 'nother ball of wax.)

Depends on your parents. My dad loves it - possibly more than I do.

Still, given its short life and huge geek following, take all the hype with a grain of salt. It's a good show, but not the end-all, be-all of television.

I think it's brilliant, and reviews are generally very positive for the series. It's certainly not for everyone, but at very least, I think it's fun and easy to watch.

I saw it on Netflix and it was one of those shows I had to shotgun all the eps because I liked the style so much; but I've always loved Whedon's "quirky world-building meets mile-a-minute smartassery with some fights thrown in" thing. Everyone I've introduced to Firefly/Serenity ate it up in the same fashion and wished for more eps, but I agree with OP - Buffy and Angel both went off the rails eventually and Dollhouse was borked from the get-go, so it probably would've been a matter of time before Firefly did some stupid shit, too.
