i think that, at this point, this series' myth status makes it impossible for a hypothetic remake or additional season to live up to people's expectations. the series is so loved, so celebrated, that adding to it now could only disappoint.

Not to mention that Nathan Fillion IS Mal. I honestly could not picture anyone else in the role or the show without him. Except he's been getting on the years now and I'm not sure if he really could take up the role like he once did. We'd probably end up with a Harrison Ford Crystal Skull scenario...

Yeah the reason people fall in love with it (other than Whedon's cult of personality) is that we never saw the filler episodes, the actors who were last minutes replacements who could not act (or were a casting producer's friend), the arcs that didn't pan out the anti-climatic season ender that didn't really clear anything up... It was too short for all of that. Any show that runs even a full season runs into those and a hundred other issues. Plus that cast are getting old and fat now, they'd just be another sad reminder that the perfection of your youth could not stand up to the reality of your now. No one wants that really.

I always thought the last episode demonstrates a lot of those. Not so much the person-who-can't-act part, it definitely felt like a filler episode, with an arc that didn't pan out, and a highly disappointing season ender. Frankly, I pretend that episode doesn't exist...

I'm against it too, for pretty much the same reasons.

And then there's also the whole Inara gets raped by reavers subplot Whedon had planned. NO KTHXBAI.

It would have been interesting to see it continue longer. I think it would have less of a mythical reputation, but I actually think there's a chance I would have liked it more had it gone on, and that some of the issues that I have with it would have been ironed out.

On the other hand, it's equally possible that Whedon would have screwed everything up forever, and anyway it's far too late now so whatever.

Yeah, I was on the "I wish Firefly hadn't been cancelled!" bandwagon. Then I watched all of Buffy and Angel; didn't take me long to jump right onto the "thank god it was cancelled!" bandwagon.

After all this time I don't think it's be possible for it to be the same if it did come back. I do wish I could find out what would have happened had the show continued, though.

Yeah it had already started to go downhill in the last couple of episodes they did. If Serenity was any indication of what he planned to do with the later show, I'm glad it ended when it did.

Is this is Firefly? I downloaded Firefly like a month ago and still haven't gotten off my ass to watch it, is it really as good as people say, or is it good the same way Buffy was good - entertaining, cool females, but ultimately not something you'd recommend to your parents?

Honestly? People who want to bring back Firefly after almost a decade don't seem to understand that the actors will have visibly aged to the point where it'll be disconcerting seeing them do all the things in the 'verse.

And I think Serenity really wrapped up a lot of loose ends, anyway.

I wish it had gotten a second season back when it first aired.

Both because I liked it and because maybe then it wouldn't have gotten such a cult status. I mean, it was an entertaining show, but I don't think it quite deserves how much build-up it has gotten. Especially since I thought they could have used 'N Sync's Space Cowboy as a theme.

As much as I enjoyed Firefly I think I agree. I enjoyed what we got as short as it was and I'm not sure bringing it back would improve it.

I'd rather see it come back via a spin-off ala TNG with a new crew than a reboot/continuation ala every Trek movie except Wrath of Khan (possibly also Search for Spock in there as well).

There should be a lot more short-term TV series. For a TV series to last ten years is absurd. I would really like to see more mini-series, and TV shows in different formats.

I'm with you in that I don't want the show to come back NOW. But for a few years after it was cancelled and before Serenity came out, I wanted it to come back so badly. I think too much time has passed now and the cast has moved on. Right now, I think I'd just like Joss Whedon to create another sci-fi show, but he's currently busy with Marvel. Don't get me wrong, I loved The Avengers, but I'm getting a bit of Marvel movie fatigue. I'd like to know what other ideas Joss Whedon has kicking around in his brain.
