His bisexuality was almost barely touched on during Hellblazer and it all but disappeared when he got folded into regular DC canon. It may as well not have been there for all the focus it got. If you want to complain about bi erasure, you're about 10 years too late.

But he had that hot boyfriend in that hot fucked up relationship that one time that they actually showed us after years and years in print. I agree that leaving out his bisexuality would not change the supernatural focus of the plot, but the fact that it IS ten years later strikes me as being about damn time to be more open about this kind of thing instead of just hinting like the comics did way back when.

Well, in the history of comics, mainstream protagonists who liked people of the same sex are a relatively new thing. Of course it wasn't around much. But if that's the best excuse you can find for not including it in a new interpretation...I don't even.

It probably wouldn't be quite as big a deal if we were not talking DC/Marvel, where Hellblazer for a few months was mainstream comics' longest running series without a title change, reboot, or split. Practically every other LGBT character in mainstream comics is a drama-fodder b-lister who has been safely killed off or quietly dropped into production hell.
