I actually can't wait for the dvd/bd release. It doesn't look like it'll be weird dumb like the Twilight movies, but it looks definitely cheesy enough to watch and laugh at. The dude looks like the son of Andrew Garfield and the cockmongler though, and that makes me laugh.

Agreed. Going by the trailer alone, it doesn't look boring, and I'll probably watch it with alcohol and friends and laugh hysterically and probably not regret the purchase. :P I did get bored during Twilight though when we had a similar girls party, so I hope it's more exciting than that - at least this one is supposed to have sex and stuff.

And by cheesy, you mean cringy. Just watching that trailer I was cringing so much that I couldn't really laugh because my eyebrows were in permanent "o rly?" mode.

Between this and that Lars Von Trier thing last year, I seriously wonder how far we are from seeing straight-up high budget, high production value, classy/artistic pornography in movie theaters.

It looks more like a trailer for a serial killer film.

I'm kind of over being righteously offended by it. The trailer presents it as it is: cheesy romance fantasy. And that's what it is, too. Like it or not, a lot of women fantasize about the dark brooding rich prince type taking a special interest in their wallflower self, add some kinky sex, and in the end this is a story written by a woman for women. Is it bad? Yes. Is the relationship presented unhealthy? YES. But seriously, it's romance fantasy. If people try to take it as a literal love story, or even a legitimate story, judge away, but this shit is kink and it's not uncommon kink either. Don't pretend you haven't wanked off to something more ethically questionable, because I sure have.

(also I'm gay and no, this movie is not my thing. but not gonna lie, I'll probably rent it or whatever and drink lots of wine with girl friends and watch it for the shits and giggles, and I won't feel like a bad feminist for it)

Nope! Ugh, yes, second hand embarrassment. It even LOOKS like self-insert fic to the umpth degree. And he looks like a serial killer in this a la American Psycho. I half expect people who don't know what it's about will go thinking that it'll be like that. So many ughs.

Huh, I actually really liked it - the actors who were selected (I would have assumed they'd go for Hollywood-generic pretty people instead of folks with a bit of character to their faces), the way the trailer was composed, and the re-recording of "Crazy In Love" suckered me right in. If it didn't have an association with such a hilariously idiotic book, I'd think it'd be a decent-if-silly kinky romance flick. The Twilight movies were infinitely better than the books, after all, and though that isn't saying much, I'm actually way more intrigued by this trailer than I ever was by the painfully bad snippets from the book.

Good God, but I'm surprised by myself, haha.

It looks like it might be an improvement on the book? It's hard to say, but based on the the trailer, it's still possible that the main character might be into it, instead of just intimidated the whole time like Ana is in (the part of) the book (that I've read).
