I thought it was implied that she gave up on 'Kou' because she realized it wasn't that big of a deal. Specially considering that she was being teased by Nagisa, who's been a play doll for his three sisters his whole life and is entirely blase about masculinity or femininity. I never got that he was teasing her just to be annoying, but to make a point that her name didn't make her boy-ish.

I can't fault the show for having 'inverted' names and have the characters not mind at all.

Nagisa isn't entirely blase about masculinity or femininity. That's one of those weird fandom ideas with no canon support whatsoever beyond "he looks the most girly".

is entirely blase about masculinity or femininity

Nagisa who still hates how her sisters forced him to wear cute girly clothes? That Nagisa? Try watching the show again, maybe you can then tell the difference between the actual canon and fanon that actually contradicts it.

I love you, anon.

I have been preaching this shit for a year but the fandom would rather ignore it so they can discuss which shade of nail polish Nagisa would wear on his next date with Rei (which is an especially irritating example because even if he didn't care about gender roles, Nagisa is way too lazy to bother with nail polish).

It seems to be based on the fact that he ties up his hair in the front sometimes, and wears colourful clothing, even though both of those things are completely ordinary for a Japanese teenage boy.

Don't forget the rainbow thighs! Nagisa wearing make-up or anything "girly" voluntarily is a sure sign of OOC and that I won't be reading that fic any further.

Watching the show again won't make any difference since Nagisa never says anything in the show about his sisters forcing him to wear girly clothes. You're one of those fans who doesn't consider anyone a true fan until they've consumed every bit of extra official media related to the show, aren't you?

For AYRT if they're curious, though, the part where Nagisa talks about his sisters is in the drama CDs.

Good point, although it's also in the first or second FrFr short.

Personally I don't think you need to consume every bit of media relating to the show to be a fan, but you definitely do need to if you want to properly analyse a character from it. Especially Nagisa, where huge chunks of his characterisation come solely from additional material (because he got sort of a raw deal when it came to development in the 1st season).

Then again, show me the episode and scene where it's said that Nagisa "is entirely blase about masculinity or femininity". There isn't one. It's fanon made up by fans who then sincerely believe that it's canon, and anything contradicting it in fics is OOC fanon. Which is bizarre.
