People are complaining about the age difference between them? I'm so out of the loop these days. Sterek is my OTP, but I would never go around bashing another ship, let alone one that has characters with comparable ages. That's extremely hypocritical.

I think some people complain about the age difference because of the implications in light of the whole kate/derek thing, I totally understand how for some people knowing that Kate seduced Derek when he was 15/16 and she was in her 20's means they can't imagine Derek ever being ok with even potentially under-aged shenanigans ... although the writer's inability to commit to an actual age for Derek (or any of the fucking older characters for that matter) just makes the whole argument hard to hold on to at times. I mean he's been hinted at being anywhere between 20ish-almost 30 from what I can tell which is just plan fucking ridiculous. For a series with as many plot holes as it has I have way bigger things to complain about then the potential size of the of an age gap.

The age difference between Derek and Stiles is usually addressed in fic, including how Derek compares himself to Kate, so I'd be surprised if that played into it.

The secret implies that the Sterek shippers are upset with the age difference between Parrish and Lydia when the same difference exists between Derek and Stiles, therefore being hypocritical. I don't think Kate has anything to do with it in that case. Maybe because there would be a possibility of something eventually happening in canon between Lydia and Parrish and never for Stiles and Derek?

Idk. But yeah, age differences in light of all the other problems the show has are nothing.

Yea, I haven't been around TW fandom lately so I haven't witnessed this firsthand, but if it is indeed happening it's extremely hypocritical. If you like a pairing with an age difference that's fine, but...why would you go bashing another pairing with an age difference on that factor alone? (I assume it's that factor alone, idk. Maybe they have some other reason for not digging it, like the dynamics, which...there isn't much of yet because Lydia and Parrish have had like two scenes together and barely spoken, so... let them have their fun, what does it matter?)

I can't tell if this is another case of me being really bad at telling the Teen Wolf characters apart (seriously I'm pathetic) or if this is a new character that I haven't noticed because I missed the last few episodes. I have no idea who this guy is.

Stiles is his first name, but it's short for something, presumably a tradional family name, that his coach (I think it was the coach, it might have been the chemistry teacher) called a form of child abuse. The sheriff's first name is also unknown (at least through 3A.)

Stiles is actually short for Stilinski, his surname. Presumably because his first name is unpronounceable.

I don't think it's necessarily hypocritical. Derek is a fail whale, so getting involved with a teen continues his pattern of poor decision making. Deputy Parrish is an officer of the law, so he's in a position of authority/can abuse that power/is old enough to be committing a felony. Both pairings have really serious underlying underage issues, but I think Parrish/Lydia is worse because of Parrish's job.

I agree. I'm a Sterek fan and recognize the many, many issues that such a pairing would involve, including the age difference. But I see no hypocrisy in objecting to the age difference between Parrish/Lydia precisely because he's, at least so far, been set up to be a mature, respectful officer of the law who would not likely be willing to get into a relationship with a high schooler who's also friends with his boss (the Sheriff)'s son. Threatening to blackmail the orderly at Eichen House is one thing...

That said, I'm actually hoping they're going to be original (FOR ONCE) on this show and not go the apparent hook-up route.

How much the age difference matters for each pairing really depends on how they're written. As someone else mentioned, Parrish is a police officer and should know better, which makes him entering into a relationship with an underage woman very questionable. Derek has so many underlying issues from being a teenager that I doubt he ever would intentionally pursue a highschooler. If either of these ships is supposed to be presented as healthy or okay, you really can't have either of the adults instigating it, and that presents other problems that sort of need to be taken on a case-by-case basis.

Really? We must hang out in really different circles, most of the people I see hating on it are anti-Sterek... and I actually ship it because of Sterek so this is odd to me
