nayrt

I think what goes into the production of veal and foie gras isn't any worse than what goes on in factory farming, but most kinds of meat can be produced without factory farming.

Yeah, but basically everyone living in an industrialized setting feeds into factory farming. Because animal parts aren't just used for food. Manure is used as fertilizer for instance. Pieces of animals are used in glue and other products. To say nothing of medications, all of which are tested on animals. So even if you eat free range meat and animal products or are a vegetarian that doesn't mean you're not feeding into the system.

Even vegans do by the very nature of an industrialized economy.

Many vegans, vegetarians ... and even people who eat meat but are concerned about animal welfare avoid products that have been tested on animals.

...and animals in factory farms aren't generally being "tested" on anyway. Factory farming is its own mess, and by not eating meat from factory farms, really reduces their purpose.

Depends which country you're living in, too. Factory farming is vastly worse in the US and China than in most other countries. I was very confused when I first saw a US recipe mentioning "grass-fed butter" because in my country the only time an animal will be in a feed lot is the 24 hours or so before slaughter. It's all "grass-fed".

Do you know why Blood and Bone is called that? Because that's what it is.
