Guess I'm in denial then. I don't see it. Eleven's relationship with them was pretty damn platonic.

The thing is that you can see the dynamics and relationships that are there without thinking of it as a plausible OT3

like, yes, there's a huge undercurrent running through... pretty much the whole Ponds era under Moffat of complex relationships between the three of them, most obviously the way the show keeps returning to the possibility of Amy being attracted to the Doctor. and I think the familial connection w/ River underlines that dimension of the show as well. but (a) it's pretty clearly problematized within the show - IE, as much as the show keeps returning to it, it's always very insistent at least on a conscious level that Amy and Rory are together and the Doctor isn't in it - in other words, it more or less explicitly denies the possibility of an OT3 and (b) at least for me personally, the way that the show keeps returning to that possibility is one of the biggest weaknesses of the era and one of the things that really goes a long way to sabotage season 6 and, really, the Pond companion era as a whole.

so while I definitely agree that there's something there textually, I think you pretty much have to rewrite all of canon - not in the sense where you're adding something that's not there, but actually completely altering the dynamics on screen. And the idea of doing so is really unappealing to me personally because of what the storylines and character arcs were doing. Ship what you want to ship obv but there are pretty good reasons for not regarding it as a good OT3 IMO

Honestly, it's the only way I can even remotely stand any story that pairs Amy with the Doctor in any fashion. However, it has to be either before the three of them find out who River really is or it has to be with River's understanding headcanoned. And I can't OT4 them because of the incest factor between River and Amy/Rory

I could see it as a possible sandwich with Amy in the middle, but not a very good one. The way I see it going, as explained with shitty attraction text arrows:
Amy--><--Eleven
Amy--><--Rory
Eleven--> -->... --> -->Rory

Rory's just too Amysexual for me to think he'd make it ot3. He'd oblige a threesome for Amy, but he'll be grouchy about it.

Not that I'm saying I wouldn't read a story where it's ot3. Especially one that involves the Doctor and Amy trying to get him more involved in it.

Don't see it. Amy had a bit of a crush on him that was part hero worship and part sexual. But she loved Rory. Rory only had eyes for Amy. And Eleven wasn't interested in either of them that way. I don't see a problem with others shipping it, but this isn't my interpretation of them at all.

I see how you would see it that way, but in my mind 11 pretty much respected their marriage. That doesn't mean there wasn't an unusually high level of affection, but he clearly favored Amy, and I honestly don't see them being sexual.

Also: parents-in-law. I'm noping out of this one.

Also, the doctor thinks bunk beds are suitable sleeping places for a married couple. He seems surprised by the idea of sex (except with River). He's a giant nerd and oddly asexual most of the time. (I say that as someone who is asexual. But c'mon, the man has been married, in love, and had children before, so he's not really asexual in all incarnations!)

Why can't I see it?

A) This is a family show (or was supposed to be, before the reboot) about Wacky Fun (and not-so-fun) Hijinks Thru Time & Space. Not Space Opera #1697898456534 with the serial numbers barely filed off.

B) The Doctor is 900 years old. Also, from Gallifrey. Two hearts. Grown in a vat. Nowhere in any of the episodes prior to the reboot, was Gallifrey shown to have any kind of family structure, nuclear or otherwise.

C) Not everything is about sex in relationships. TV and fanfic has ruined you, OP.

D) I hate the reboot with the passion of a thousand fiery suns. Why am I even arguing with this secret?

Well, I love their threesome relationship to bits and I do like the OT3 too, but IMO I can see how it's very easy for someone to get an overwhelming no-romo vibe from that group. So, no, I don't think it's impossible to not be able to see a romantic OT3 there.

Before Day of the Moon aired, a fandom friend of mine was like "hmmm... River/Amy/Rory OT3?"

I have not yet let her live that down.

the doctor really didn't care for rory and rory didn't really care for the doctor. he followed amy aboard the tardis bc he didn't trust her. he was never really happy traveling whereas amy was. take amy's choice for instance, rory was happy in the reality where they'd settled down, and both the doctor and amy sort of saw that reality as a huge nightmare.

if only the narrative hadn't kept trying to get the doctor to push amy into "growing up" and choosing rory. amy loved the doctor and the doctor loved her. that's why her face was the last face he saw. he didn't see rory there, he saw amy. amy is the person who shaped eleven, he spent over half of his entire life in 10 years of amy's life. amy even wrote books about the doctor after she became stranded with rory.

Nope. Don't see it. I think Amy was a little infatuated with the Doctor for a bit, but got over it once she was around him for a while and he was no longer the elusive mystery man from her childhood. As for the Doctor, I don't think he had any romantic feelings for either one of them. And to be honest, the show never sold me on the idea that Amy loved Rory. She kept saying she did, but I just didn't feel it. Really, the only sort-of romantic thing I've bought in the reboot was Ten/Rose, and even then I think it was mostly on her side. With Eleven, I just don't see him being interested in anyone (even River) in that way.

But if seeing it makes the show more fun for you, have at it.
