Well, I agree with the OP. There are plenty of sources validating the extent of trafficking and exploitation, and while there are pornographers who try to operate their businesses ethically the people who distribute porn almost never go to the effort of listing their sources. I know F!S is the anti-SJW contrarian club these days, but it's disappointing to see so many people reply to this secret as if they can be sure their live-action porn was rape-free.

Other than that, as many people have pointed out, what about M/M porn? And what about porn where women aren't getting exploited?

I mean, yeah, I'll agree that there is a lot of exploitation within the porn industry, but the act of having sex on camera for money is not inherently exploitative, so boycotting the entire live-action porn industry is pointless.

Besides, if you're going by the principle that "some people in this business are being exploited, so the entire business must be boycotted", you'd have to boycott anyone who uses overseas, underpaid/minimum wage, underage, or immigrant labor. Which is nearly every business in modern civilization.

You like coffee and chocolate? Too bad, those have a track record for illegal slave labor, so no more for you. And no more imported fruits and vegetables, given the amount of child labor in those industries. And no going to at least half of all American retailers who pay their workers minimum wage (which, yes, is nearly always tantamount to underpaying workers, depending on what state you're in). And given the amount of harassment (sexual and otherwise) waiters and waitresses face on a daily basis, combined with the fact they are only paid a fraction of the minimum wage and have to rely on inconsistent tips for the rest of their pay - no more restaurants for you!

Do you see where I'm going with this, OP? If an industry has a lot of exploitation but the business is not based off an inherently exploitative or abusive action, then boycotting or eliminating that industry doesn't really help or solve anything.

you really need to listen to sex workers here, who - generally - time and time again reject the idea that theyre being abused or exploited. we hear a lot about sex workers who ARE exploited or those who leave the industry for negative reasons and condemn it for its treatment of the workers and perpetuation of fallacious standards. but thats not always the case, and women should be allowed to film pornography of themselves if they choose to. what viewers take out of it isnt necessarily or completely the filmmaker's responsibility.

I came to the same conclusion as this secret several years ago.

I had come across far too many horror stories about how women were drugged and raped, or kept deliberately as addicts, to make the classics of 70s het porn.

Nowadays I only use fic/illustrated smut, and more recently also m/m live porn to get off.

Not that men can't be exploited. Of course they can. But all the horror stories I've read about gay porn have been about the poor working conditions and pay, and the unreliable nature of the business. Out and out rape and forcible drug addiction seems much more a het porn thing, although hopefully it's on the decline there too. Gay porn does have its own particular problems (steroid abuse and better pay for barebacking) so I try to avoid the type of gay porn where they're bulked to hell and not using condoms.

I like to keep myself informed. I also try to buy fair trade and shop sustainably. Why shouldn't I also care about my porn?
