#it is especially annoying #when they use tags #to explain their #POINT #instead of writing it out #like #a #normal #person

Seriously. I like tumblr and all, but that shit is the worst.

as annoying is when peopLR ARE TYPING OUT A STORY AND OH MY GOD YOU CAN'T GUESS WHAT HAPPENED SO LET ME TYPE IN CAPS!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never run across that, thank goodness. It helos that I don't browse tumblr that much anymore.

I thought their complaint was with the tagged meta at first tbh.

this happens when people don't want to hijack posts but still want to say something

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2014-08-07 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
But then other people Copy+Paste that text and hijack the post anyway.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
but that's the "other people"'s problem, not the fault of the tag-commenters who were trying to be polite.

But that is who I was talking about. Just like in the picture.

What does "hijacking a post" even mean? Why is it a bad thing? And, reblogging means your tags are lost when someone else reblogs, so either no one other than your immediate circle of followers will see it (and even then, only ones with extensions to let them see all the tags at once - I don't use any extensions on my browser, so I don't see most tags)...or, the followers will copy-paste the tags into text when they reblog, anyway, thus resulting in the post being "hijacked" (if I'm understanding that term correctly).

I don't get it at all.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I was wondering too, so thank you for asking.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
It depends on the person, I know when I'm adding opinion tags (or whatever you want to call them), I only want my immediate followers to see them, it means it's something I'd feel weird about complete strangers seeing, kind of the same thinking that keeps me from posting pictures of myself. Some people just don't want everyone to know whatever silly thing they add to a post.

I can kind of understand being confused, because it can be hard to understand the motivation of someone you don't know in a community that doesn't interest you, but why are people getting mad about any of this?

a.) But then they just copy-paste the tags into their own reblogs, anyway.

b.) Because that stream of links and hashtags is annoying and difficult to read. When it's a few words, it's fine, but when it's entire sentences or paragraphs, then it starts to be a problem, and long "tag essays" are sometimes a literal pain to read.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Concerning a: Yes, some people do, but the important thing is that not everyone does. Having comments in tags just makes it easier to have a post that isn't cluttered with commentary that you might not care for (and from people you might not follow)---and at the same time, if you do like the commentary, you can reblog it if you want, with less effort than it would take to delete the comments you don't want to keep. Otherwise, most posts would probably have captions miles long.

I understand that it can be a pain to read, but I honestly think tag comments are pretty practical.

Yup.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I especially hate the ones like in this secret because it's breaking their sentences up into weird ass sections that make no logical sense. My mind reads the end of every underlined bit as if there's a comma there. Sentence structure exists for a reason! Gah. I hate this shit.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've been bitched at on tumblr for writing my opinion as a comment instead of KEEPING IT TO THE TAGS SO PEOPLE DON'T HAVE TO SEE IT IN REBLOGGED STUFF.

I ignored them, ofc, but I still thought it was hilarious.

Tumblr is a strange, strange beast.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
I get it in some cases, but that's usually when people say things like "Agree." Or repeat a phrase that was already in whatever they're reblogging. Basically, the difference between something that encourages discussion and something that would be implied by liking or reblogging.

If people don't want you to comment on shit on Tumblr, don't post it. Tumblr is made for reblogging and commenting on shit.

#mte #I think that's the real problem here

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
it's my favourite thing on tumblr. I can comment on something and people don't have to reblog my stupid opinion, which they would if I put it in the text box (a lot of people on tumblr don't appreciate when you comment in the text box and ruin their posts). Just trying to be polite.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-08 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. I won't touch post that does that. I also hate that as an artist I have to look at tags to see most comments on my art. You stupid fucks. You do this to make me go to your page don't you.

If I don't want to reblogg someone's comment I just go reblog the original post.
