Unless you're harassing the BNF about it, I don't think you're petty, OP. Everyone, I imagine, wants more fic of their favorite pairings, so of course you're going to be a bit annoyed that a previous source of good works has now shifted away. Your feelings are understandable and having a preference isn't an issue.

If you were pestering the BNF, I think that would be a different story, though, because that would be rather entitled behavior.

Don't have much else to say, but I don't see how this is petty. You're allowed to have preferences, and if this means there will be less fic of your favorite pairing then your reaction seems pretty normal. As long as you aren't trying to cause wank or harassing someone, you're fine.

Came here to say pretty much the same thing. As long as you don't act out, it's fine.

You have my sympathy. I'm kind of a similar situation, except AxC isn't a NOTP as much as that I just don't care about it. It's the same with the dynamics I don't like, too.

I really wish I knew what fandom this is.

But that would definitely irritate me as well. Like others have said, as long as you're not harassing the BNF over it, it's okay to be annoyed about it. I don't think it's petty. But it makes me wonder why the BNF suddenly switched pairings.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-13 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps they were influenced by one of their friends, or they got tired of the pairing. Plus, there are other reasons that I have not typed out here. It really depends on whatever is the trend or something along those lines.

Anyway, I can totally relate, OP. Same thing happened to me in a small (sub)fandom for a pairing from a video game. A portion of the fandom didn't even ship that pairing anymore. Plus, they didn't ship it 'romantically'.

Is it possible that the BNF multiships and ships both A+B and A+C?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-13 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Possibly, they could focus more on one ship over the other ship, even if they multiship. But that's purely subjective.

That sucks!

It happens. Don't beat yourself up, as long as you're not being a dick then you're not doing anything wrong. We can't always help our feelings.

There are a lot of things I don't ship that I'm cool with but I do have a few NoTPs where my reaction is visceral, where something about the pairing or the pairing-as-popularly-portrayed hits something off for me (usually it's when things that come off as deeply unhealthy to me are being portrayed as cute/normal but there are other things too), and sometimes a popular writer or artist will see something different from what I see (or react differently to seeing the same thing), and I get that feeling. It's never fun and it's understandable.

(I'm curious as to what your OTP/NoTPs are but if it's a small fandom I do understand why you don't want to say anything and I agree. Even if you're not in danger of outing yourself, you'd be outing the BNF in a complaint and I respect not wanting to do that)
