I presume from the comparison to gen fans that you're drawing a distinction between people who don't like reading about relationships full stop and people who don't like reading about specifically gay relationships, and presuming this is a value judgment on their part. Thing is, I don't know that that necessarily holds? I'm primarily a gen fan, but that doesn't mean that I think relationships are the work of the devil and shouldn't be written about/enjoyed, it just means that I don't particularly want to read about them most of the time. It's entirely possible that many primarily het fans are the same about slash. It's not that they think it's immoral/evil/wrong or anything, it's just that it's not what they want to read about, either in general or in this specific fandom or whatever.

I mean, it's also possible that there's some latent homophobia going on in some cases, but it could just be the case that they're fine with other people enjoying/taking part in such things but want to focus on their own tastes for their own reading pleasure. Unless somebody is blatantly letting fly with homophobic commentary/hate regarding slash or attacking people for liking it (in which case judge away and I'll be joining you), I don't see the problem with people reading what they want to read? Unless they're actively hating, it's not really going to damage anything if a group of people just decide slash isn't for them.

*puts up hand* I prefer mostly gen these days, but that's partly because I burnt myself out by reading massive amounts of slash. I enjoyed it like crazy, but it left me feeling sated... and suddenly craving stories about human relationships that aren't necessarily romantic or sexual.

(And of course, plot. Not that slashfics can't be plotty, but a lot of them aren't especially strong on that, TBH.)

Anyway my preference for gen has nothing to do with being asexual (I'm not) or anything like that. I really resent it when people make judgements about my sexuality/sensuality based on the fact I currently like to read, and write, gen rather than pairingfic.
