I remember all those people who said Trayvon Martin was a "thug" who deserved to die because he smoked pot and shoplifted. Now folks are saying Brown deserved to die, and I'm rather hesitant to take them at face value.

This is completely different. Trayvon wasn't fleeing the scene of an assault+ robbery when he was stalked. These men weren't stalked, either.

Yeah, this. It just seems really suspicious that they're just now saying he was involved in a robbery. And even if he was, so what? He was unarmed and did not deserve to die. And with the way the Ferguson police have handled things, I'm not sure if I'm ready to believe the officer's story.

If you go for a cops gun, them shooting you makes sense. I can't say that's what happened. But that's what the cops are saying and if it's true then there you go.

Probably not. Allegedly there was a scuffle between the cop and Brown. A shot went off near/in the police car, after which Brown starts running away. Cop then opens fire, hits Brown, Brown allegedly surrenders, cop keeps shooting.

And honestly it's those last moments that people are incensed about. The fact that everyone and their cat are bringing up every dirty little thing about the police and Brown shows how willing people are to not get to the point of an incident.

Now again, not having a time portal, the police story is that there was a struggle for the gun (and the gun did go off in the car is my understanding, however that happened). Now if somebody is going for your gun, usually it's not to go throw it in the trash. At this point, if that is indeed what happened, I think you assume this person is trying to kill you and respond in kind.

yeah but "if it's true" though, and that's a big "if", especially since we're talking about cops here.

I wish people would stop using the word "cops" like all cops are some kind of monolithic species.

They're not, but they do have an unfortunate reputation for corruption and excessive force that is not entirely undeserved.
