Their canon selves sure were nowhere near being remotely tolerating each other.

I still ship it :') - the reason would be that this pairing takes so muuuuuuch character development and plotting. Easy fixes bore me with them, or totally random PWPs.

On the other hand, I've met someone in my life who was just like Fenris (minus dark past) while I'm quite a bit like Anders. I cannot stand this guy, at all, never ever would be even friendly with him (tried... but stompy blowouts aren't fun). The irony.

...you're a terrorist who is possessed by a spirit?

SA. YES. I intend to blow up Ian Duncan Smith :> .

... I only meant character-wise :P . But, I'm not a really great human being so there's that.

I agree with this! I like the pairing if the author develops the relationship. A random "lol let's fuck and then snuggle" would be strange, but if you develop it, it can be awesome. I'd like a fic where they finally come to terms with how similar they are and connect through that instead of butting heads or something.

The problem is, every single Fenders fic I've read, even the "good" ones, have to force them to behave in OOC ways in order to get to the point where they can "connect". There's just no way to make them consistent with their canon selves and not have it be a horrible fucking nightmare of abusiveness, and there's no way to make it "work" without fundamentally altering their personalities.

Yeahhhhh. I mean, there was this one fic, Scions of Seheron or whatever that was decent enough to get me to consider it, but then the person writing it vanished into thin air and left it unfinished on a HORRIFIC cliffhanger. I will never forget my screech of dismay when I reached the end and realized the fic hadn't been touched in years.

I agree with you on this. We know they hate each other in canon, but give me a good fic where they start to understand each other... I like fics with character development, and will give wiggle room for OOC for the sake of that character development.

THIS. This for all my hero/villain ships. It's the point of developing the characters and keeping them in canon (if possible) and getting them to understand each other. Hell, that's where a relationship starts.
