Don't listen to them, the musical is much better than the book. The musical actually has, you know, a cohesive story instead of edgy scenes just to be edgy shoulder to shoulder with boring politics. The musical is more Oz-ian.

I agree with you 100%. I found the book unpleasant at best, and borderline offensive at worst, in part due to its apparent determination to distance itself as much as possible from the "Wizard of Oz" family-friendliness.

The book WAS supposed to be a string of events. It's called "The Life and Times" for a reason. No one in the musical had an actual personality.

It was, hands down, THE WORST BOOK THAT I HAVE EVER READ.

I had to force my way through it. It was boring and the characters were awful. I wanted them all to die a quick death so that I could stop reading the book.
