To be honest, I don't know if there's any tactful way to flat-out ask if someone is gay any more than it is to ask them if they were straight or bi or whatever.

Next time she comes in wearing that necklace, you could simply compliment the piece. "I like your necklace" or "Hey, cool necklace." If she clarifies what it means, you can go from there. If she just says "thanks" you could ask where she got it from, 'cause you have a bracelet and were thinking about getting a necklace too. Maybe something like that. It's also possible to ask, "Do you support gay rights?" and get a certain response from it. "No, I just like rainbows" or "Yeah, totally" followed by something more obvious about her orientation/preference. But it could also be followed by a "my brother's gay and I'm wearing this to honor him" or "yeah, my girlfriend/partner and I have matching bracelets" so... just be prepared.
