Because we can and we'll ship and write whatever we want to. I don't like certain pairings in this fandom (Skye/Coulson) but they can ship whatever the hell they want to.

Of course they/you can. I just wanted a safe place to grumble, that's all.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The entitlement is strong with this one.

Don't like it, don't read it. There. Your problem is solved.

If your problem is "it exists," then your problem is far deeper than shipping.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
No, the grumbling's strong with this one.

I don't read it, obviously, and I don't have any problems with its existing, it's just that it's swamping my Friends page at the moment and, whenever I see it, it genuinely squicks me.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Repeat after me: Your ship is not my ship, and that's okay.

NO WAY

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
People are shipping a character who's a jerk!? And turned out to be a traitor?!

THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!

WTF

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Because this hasn't happened 100000 times before in the history of fandom.

Do I need to remind someone about Mulder/Krycek?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, Mulder/Krycek... </3

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, Mulder/Krycek. Teenage me who just figured out the internet and stumbled upon fandom was baffled for a second and then amazed!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Put a cute white boy in front of fangirls, and literally nothing he does matters.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering this is a spin off of a fandom where the genocidal maniacs are woobified and shipped with their victims, I don't see why you'd ever expect "jerk and traitor" to be a sticking point for anyone.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
People write what they like and/or find interesting, and sometimes one character being a traitor makes the ship more appealing than less?
That's certainly been the case for me in a fandom past where the only pairing I really cared for was good!woman/traitor!guy (with the difference that the audience knew that he was a traitor from the start).

But anyway, jerks and traitors get shipped with good and non-jerkish characters all the time, in lots of fandoms, and when I look at the MCU, there is no shortage of ships which fit that particular description, so I don't quite understand why the popularity of Skye/Ward is so baffling to you in the first place?

+1.

I don't ship Skye/Ward at all, but it existing isn't exactly surprising. People ship what appeals to them and I can ignore it easily enough.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of people seem to ignore or gloss over the traitor thing.

Which isn't surprising, given the fandom's tastes, but can be really frustrating if you happen to be looking for fic that deals with the relationship in context of the betrayal and deals with the guilt and doubt and disapproval and general utter mess that should come along with the ship.

...why the popularity of Skye/Ward is so baffling to you in the first place?

I think it's one of those inexplicable matters of personal taste. {shrugs} I was just looking for somewhere to grumble.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really get it either, but I've never liked Ward. Skye is slowly growing on me.

(But I ship the even less popular Coulson/Simmons, so what do I know?)

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, Coulson/Simmons would be adorable. I may have to look some up.

Yeah, Ward was never my cup of tea either.

Also... *ship solidarity fist bump*

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not gonna tell people they can't write something, but I will admit that, speaking as someone who generally will give most anything a shot that isn't incest, Ward/Skye just makes me think OMG FUCK NO. I can't think of anything else that gives me such a knee-jerk DNW reaction.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Me either! I don't know why. But I think I made this secret looking for someone else who felt the same.

I don't want Skye/Ward on the show. Ever. Even if he'd redeemed (which I am admittedly hoping doesn't happen, because he's so much more interesting as a villain, but I fully expect will eventually happen), I really, really don't want it to happen.

But I love reading happy Skye/Ward fics. I'm not really sure why; maybe it's just that there's quite a few fluffy AUs, and sometimes that's exactly what I'm in the mood for? The stoic guy and the fun girl who loosens him up is a favourite trope for me, especially when it doesn't get to Manic Pixie Dream Girl levels - which I think they avoid - and some of the fics are just heaps of fun, so I like to read them.

But yeah, I never want them to actually be possible on the show. Same thing with Sherlock/Joan in Elementary fics. Interesting to read, some writers have great ideas, I really hope it never happens.

I'm a bit more terrified of the folks who are shipping Bucky and Alexander Pierce.

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-08-24 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Does anyone genuinely ship them (like, actual fluff/healthy relationship ship)? Because all I've ever seen is gratuitous creepy/rapey fic, with everyone knowing full well that's exactly what it is and NOT AT ALL a healthy relationship. The fact that it's so rapey and unhealthy is half the appeal right there (as a piece of fiction).

Does anyone actually, genuinely ship them?

People enjoy different things, news at eleven.

I'm assuming your ship is Skoulson. Which, yes, squicks the hell out of me. You know what I don't do? Read it. You know what I also don't do? Make entitled, judgemental posts about how wrong it is.

This fucking fandom, man.
