"I ship it as a BROTP/bromance!" Um, no you don't.

Mind explaining? Why do you feel that they don't?

ayrt

Well, shipping generally means romance. "I ship them" = "I would like to see them as a couple."

If they like it as a BROTP or bromance only, they like it platonic so it's not called shipping. It's not that they call it BROTPs, it's that they add the shipping connotation to it.

Fair enough. Thought that might be the case but wasn't entirely sure.

I do sometimes used the word "ship" for non-romantic/sexual relationships, but I make it clear that this is for lack of a better term and usually use quote marks around the word.

Ship came from relationship, right? Why can't people use it to mean friendship?

The term shipper comes from the X-files. Some people liked Mulder and Scully as friends, some people wanted romance and for them to be in a relationship. Those people started calling themelves relationshipers, and thus the term shipper was born. So it makes no sense saying they are your broship. Shipping is only for romantic pairings.

I suppose that makes sense, but people are still going to use it to mean friendships. It's a fandom term and fandom is redefining it, so...too bad for you, I guess.

Or "they are my broship, sis-ship". NO. Shipping means a romantic relationship. Say you only like their sibling dynamic, don´t add the ship part, it doesn´t make any sense.
