Well I guess they are canon OP. I always feel Harry and Hermione are like Luke and Leia. Ron is Han Solo. Sort of wrong to ship the twins :)

This is how I feel about the two ships too. Never got on board with H/Hr and can't stand to see Hr/R split up in fic.

Use of "Hr" for Hermione really annoys me because "Harry" has an "r" too! In fact "Harry" has two "r"s, so it would make more sense for "Hr" to be Harry! Why can't people use "Ha" and "He"? Why?

...just wanted to get that off my chest.

It annoys me too, lol, but I prefer it over Harmony and whatever the Ron/Hermione ship name is.

You could just write the names out... It doesn't take that long, I swear!

I think "Hr" works better for Hermione because it is closer to how I pronounce the first syllable of her name (compared to "Harry"). But ymmv...

This is the exact comparison I always make too.

Incidentally, Han/Leia, Ron/Hermione, and comicsverse Superman/Lois Lane are probably the only three ships in the history of my experience in fandom that I can get actually worked up about to exclusive OTP levels. *sigh* I'm so canon and boring...

I don't think the comparison works. Luke and Leia are actually twins. They are actually related. Two close friends are not the same thing. And a relationship can change from platonic to not platonic. It was never going to in the books, but it can happen. And the dynamics don't work either. Yes, Ron and Hermione are Harry's sidekicks, but Hermione is the brains of the operation in the way Leia never was, Ron is not an anti-hero the way Han is, and Harry relies on his friends much more than Luke ever does.

Really, you can't point to one set of dynamics to say anything about another set of dynamics.

Um, I think they were just saying that shipping-wise, they feel towards Harry/Hermione the same way they feel towards Luke/Leia. Not that the specific characters were perfect parallels or anything.

Okay, that makes sense. It read to me like they were saying the two trios were the same or at least really parallel, and since I've seen people say that, I wanted to disagree.

Yes, thank you! This is exactly how I view them. Complete with the whole side-ship, snark snark "wait we're in danger? I lover you," tropes. All positives for me :)

(Anonymous) 2014-08-25 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe this is why I don't like them, I'm just not a fan of those things at all.
