I understand the frustration with that many fixes for rape prevention focus on the to-be victim to take preventive measures rather than putting the focus on the perpetrator, but I don't see any bad in this project.

See, the thing is when people say the "Teach men not to rape" bullshit, that would not even apply to people using date rape drugs. "Teach men not to rape," is about teaching men about what is consent or not.

If someone is using date rape drugs they KNOW they are doing something illegal. This isn't like, "Well she was blackout drunk but still walking/talking so I did not know it was rape."

This is someone buying ILLEGAL drugs and sneaking them into your drink. Do people actually think you can tell someone like that "Just don't rape," and they will listen? That would be like going up to Jeffry Dahmer and being like, "Hey. Don't murder and eat people. That is bad."

I agree with you here.

I should have been more clear on that I think that the backlash is from misunderstanding the whole "teach rapists not rape" thing and there will always be people who will rape other people.

Exactly. These people are beyond a reprimand and simply don't respect anyone if they're using date rape drugs.

tbh i think that we could still reduce date rape numbers also. it's all about the mentality. it'll always happen, which is an unfortunate reality, but i think a lot of men who resort to this atrocity could have been raised or educated otherwise. not all criminals are ~destined to be that way. some don't care either way but i think upbringing can change the realities many of these men live, if that makes sense.

yeah i'm the same way. i think the focus should be on teaching people not to rape, and further stigmatising it in our culture. i don't think this is the current focus at all. it's always about ways to prevent rape, like taking a buddy with you, watching your drink, etc. and those are good rules in general but they don't tackle the root of the problem so they don't actually reduce rape attempts. but i don't see the bad in this project either. just because some guys made a nail polish doesn't mean their efforts are diminishing those that go toward dismantling rape normalcy.
