A few of us were talking about this yesterday, so... Hopefully some of you guys are around today too, and feel like ranting/celebrating/whatever.

Solas has just been confirmed as a LI. But only if you play as a female elf.

If Blackwall is revealed to be the final, and he's bisexual -- I'm good! But until then, I'm pretty disappointed. First Cullen, now this :(

Ooo, I was late in noticing that secret so I just didn't comment, but I'm with yesterdays OP; not being able to romance Varric is disappointing. I didn't expect that you would be able to and maybe it's for the best, but...meh.

Right now my eye is on Iron Bull (unf, Qunari), and I think I'll probably play as a guy first, then go with a female character to romance Sera (who is adorable, from what little I've seen). Might eventually get around to Dorian and if Blackwall is revealed as a LI, him too.

No Varric? Well, one less reason for me to buy the game.

That, and I can't really say that I'm dreading the prospect of one of the worst fandoms on the internet engage in bi/pan identity wank spilling over to my feeds.

Varric is still in the game, but not as a love interest. :(

lmao. Well...look at it this way, doesn't matter if you play the game or not (or touch the fandom), BioWare wank is so massive that you'll probably see it regardless!

... you interpret a character with a given sexuality, then, you're erasing all the other sexualities!

It just seems so strange to me that they would make him straight and racegate him. It just seems like a lot of effort to go to all the work of writing, programming, etc. an story line that only one of the eight possible inquisitors can experience.

Apart from that I don't really care. I didn't have any particular feelings or plans for Solas yet, so I'll just wait how I'll like him in game.

I would also like Blackwall for the remaining LI, but I think Vivienne is more likely, because that would balance out the genders between the LIs.

Yeah, that's a good point. Apparently they are saying that it "makes SUPER story sense", so... *shrugs* We'll have to wait and see, I guess!

Maybe I'm just being delusional, but I don't necessarily think it's more likely to be Vivienne. For one, her whole personality and all her ambitions just seems to totally go against any notion of romance. Also, if she's an LI then that means every single female companion is available to romance. I dunno, but that would bother me a bit.

Yeah, not wanting every female companion to be a LI is my main reason for not wanting Vivienne as a romance option. I feel like since there are so few female companions they really should not make them all romancable.

But right now I am mostly trying not to get my hopes up for anything that has not yet been confirmed.

They dug their own grave with that by offering so many romance options and yet so few female companions to balance it out. Damned if they're all romanceable, damned if they're not so there's even more imbalance in the gender ratio.

they said it played a big part in solas' story, so we'll have to see. i just can't think of anything that would make his orientation/racial preferences that important.

A lot of people are guessing that it might have to do with wanting to rebuild the elf population -- i.e. making babies. I don't know if I necessarily buy that, but that's the most common theory so far.

Well, if he expects my character to pop out babies, I wouldn't want to romance him anyway.

oh did blackwall get confirmed too? i thought they said there'd only be one more.

in any case, i expected solas to be elf-locked and straight but my dash is kicking up a fuss about it.

No, no, sorry if my post was unclear -- only one of the remaining LI spots were revealed. Blackwall's status is still up in the air; it's either him or Vivienne.

ohhh yeah i got confused bc my dash kept saying there was only one spot left between varric, blackwall and solas. i forgot there was another spot.

I'm getting a little tired of those "you have to be this, that and that to be able to romance this fictional character". It takes the fun out of the game, in my opinion. I think a Fantasy RPG doesn't have to properly reflect the real world's political, racial and sexual facets. It's annoying and an inconvenience to the people who play the games. And I really don't know why they would do that, other than saving money by not having the voice actors record all romance lines for different genders.

Also, I'm not even incredibly invested in romance plots, but it was a fun little thing in the games. I just really dont understand why they would take such a big step backwards in terms of "equal opportunity romancing".

I can understand why people want to have as many options as possible and I get frustrated when I can not romance someone the way I want to (I really love you, Morrigan, I am just really bad at playing straight men), but I am actually happy they don't make the characters "playersexual"?

I think it is just that the fact that the characters have a sexuality that is not dependent on my wishes or decisions make them feel more real and fleshed out.

Yeah, me too. Just let me romance who I want to romance with my lady Qunari inquisitor, okay? I don't want to jump through hoops to make sure I have the right character to have this romance or that romance, honestly.

I like it, because it makes them feel more like real people. Not everyone is going to be bisexual and attracted to every sort of person IRL (not even just in terms of fantasy races but in terms of personalities, that sort of thing), so why should fictional characters? If anything I'd rather them make it a little harder to romance companions in terms of your PC's personality just being one that grates on them, or something.

It's already like that in Dragon Age, there were decisions your PC could make that would shut down a romance cold, if not cause your companion to abandon you entirely. More so in the second game than first, though, where it was easier to ply hostile companions with gifts if you were shady like that (kinda glad they removed that mechanic).

I will probably fuck Cullen, the poor guy was so in love with my Warden, he deserves to get a vagina this time. And he's a cutie.

I really really want Vivienne to be the last, or has it been confirmed that she won'e be romance-able? Of course, it looks like the last one will be male only and race-gated somehow, so I don't know.

Eh, I've resolved to this time around not settling on a romance until once I'm playing the game (in comparison to DA2 where I got stuck on Anders even after I realized I wasn't as interested in that version of Anders), so none of the romance announcements have gotten to me to much. Although my top three ones I were interested in was Cassandra, Dorian and Varric and I'm playing a female Inquisitor so....yeah. I'm glad I decided not to get too invested. >>;
