The main reason I heard was that most rapes aren't committed by some stranger in a bar slipping something into your drink, but by someone you probably trust to make you a drink, and that touting this as some end-all of rape wasn't a good idea.

I see their point, but I still think it's a good idea, especially in settings like college parties.

no. That is NOT a point at all. I saw someone says that too. That only 3% of rapes are from slipping something in your drink. SO WHAT? Even if it only helped .000001% of people, that is better than not trying at all.

I would assume that's the point, actually. I mean, quite frankly, where else would you be able to "discreetly stir your drink with your finger? I'm about to go to university and I wouldn't mind having something like that - and I say this as a very firm believer in the concept of rape-culture and victim-blaming culture.

Especially since there is a good chance that if/when I do this, I'll know who made the drink for me - which means if I might be in a position to have them in some way disciplined or prosecuted for attempted drugging alone. Unlikely, but still possible.
