In what world did the PS4 do badly? The XBOne wasn't the greatest but did well. RIP Nintendo.

Nintendo will survive the Wii U just like they've survived every other infuriating dumbass decision they've ever made. The fucking company is a cockroach, tear its head off and it'll keep on living because even death doesn't want it.

It will survive because of its mobile market. Doesn't have any competition other than smart phones. It should focus on that.

More like they keep on living because they make good games. So even if the console gets very few games, you know that there will be Marios, Zeldas, etc, and they will be great.

Nintendo will survive by releasing new versions of their portable systems with bullshit gimmicks, fucking over the userbase who bought it already. This time they didn't even bother giving it a new name!

Except the Wii U turned around with the release of ~~Smash Bros~~ MarioKart (oops). It looks to at least be around the same level as the XBOne (it's shipped more units but we don't have sales figures).

This quote is from an article on August 27th. "In April, the PS4 not only bested the competition, but it sold more than the Xbox One and Wii U combined. VGChartz estimates that Sony sold a whopping 579,850 PS4 units, while Microsoft sold a respectable 335,101 Xbox Ones and Nintendo sold only 120,568 Wii U units."

And Nintendo has said that they could their Wii U sales as a loss.

Game consoles aren't going anywhere..

Pfffhaha. Keep telling yourself that.
Because consoles have never done poorly before.
Because the video gaming market isn't the biggest it's ever been.
Nope. It's going to die out. That's an entirely reasonable expectation.

Awww, I'm still debating getting a console. I remember how much I loved my gameboy color as a kid.

I went straight from my Gameboy Color (playing Pokemon & Zelda) to a Nintendo 3DSXL and I've had so much fun on it. The games are fantastic.

I mostly like puzzle/strategy, rpgs and visual novel games. Fire Emblem: Awakening is amazing and why I made the move. The Professor Layton and the Ace Attorney Series are also my favorites, but also I've had great fun with Broken Sword, Bravely Default, Dragon Quest, Hotel Dusk, Advance Wars, Steamworld Dig. I also have a couple dozen interactive books.

I bought the console new in case of problems (so far the Nintendo helpdesk service is excellent if I even have a wobble because my card is badly inserted) but picked up most of my games second hand on ebay to keep the cost down there.

Anyway, I really debated buying a 3DS because of the cost, but I use it every day.

Battery life is excellent too, especially if you turn off the internet connection and use headphones. I get about 6 hours out of it like that before I have to recharge, or days and days if I'm not using it constantly and just leave it on standby. I once borrowed someone's tablet and I couldn't get even 2 hours out of that without a recharge, which I was surprised at.

Given how the PS4 has sold more than 10 million consoles globally in less than a year, already passing WiiU's global sales and more than doubling the XB 1's - and yet you claim it's selling poorly, it's pretty clear you don't know enough about the industry to be bitching about it in the first place, OP. Considering the PS4 remake of "The Last of Us" has sold more than a million copies already, it's not going anywhere.

Carry on with your delusions, though. I need a laugh every now and then. :D

Aren't they selling the PS4 at a loss and recoup the costs by games and other accessories? Or is that some sort of weird conspiracy I heard?

I get having problems with the industry, but I've been a console gamer as long as I can remember so if something happened to the platform I would be sad. I don't think console gaming is going anywhere anytime soon, though.

+1 Also would like to add that as much as I'd like the industry to change I don't want it to die, especially if that means tons of artists would lose their jobs.

Hahahahaha! Yeah, that will happen! Although the landscape has changed over time, I don't think consoles are going anywhere just yet. Perhaps in a few years things might go all digital, but that would require many more improvements to the digital landscape first. A LOT of improvements.

I'm afraid that's not going to happen, OP. The vast majority of people who play games use consoles, and they aren't going to switch to PC any time soon. What's more likely to happen is that the length of time between generations will increase.

That said, as others have pointed out, the PS4 and XBox One really haven't done that poorly (and the Wii U is starting to catch up). It's an illusion created by the need to draw comparisons between new products and their predecessors, and that's actually a really bad way to gauge success.

And even if consoles do die (something I think will happen, but not necessarily very soon) the video game industry isn't going anywhere, OP.

People enjoying things I don't like are so irritating.

Even though I haven't played a console game for a long time, I find consoles a lot easier to play on, easy enough for me to be able to beat Devil May Cry 3 depsite having dyspraxia. Plus I have never had a console game crash on me, like PC games do.

So, yeah, I prefer console.
