Not the OP, but I've written fics that didn't involve the #1 pairing in a fandom and I've had people (well, mostly the same fucking person, tbh) come into the comments and complain that there wasn't enough of the big pairing in it.

Like, fics that take place before either character in the pairing was even BORN.

That is awesomely bonkers.

Are there actual Hunger Games going on between various pairings that I am missing out on?

Now that's a version of Shipping Wars I'd watch!

Ship Wars man, they're awful. I feel for you, OP.

Your fandom sounds like fresh hell, tbh. 'Battling' the rival ship sounds like it would take too much time and effort, and turn your attention from the actual enjoyable bits of fandom.

I think the best thing to do in these situations (which I know is easier said than done when you feel the way you do) is just try not to care if you're 'winning' or not. If you don't mind that your ship isn't canon, you'll enjoy yourself a lot more. Then you won't have to obsess over if it will or won't be canon, and you can just enjoy yourself and let others enjoys themselves too.

But again, I know that might not work for you.

I don't understand this secret at all. Are their ship wars out there that involve people for real fighting? When I was really into fandom, you could hang in your own shipping corner without problems.

Ship and let ship, man. Can't we all just get along?

I know at least on tumblr there are ship wars. People sending anon hate because of ships or gloating every time something goes well for their own ship over others. People get into debates about it if there is a shared forum.

It's petty as hell but it goes on in every fandom where there are conflicting ships.

Or -- and I know this sounds crazy, but stay with me here -- you could like what you like, and let other people like what they like, and get on with your fandom life.

If it were that easy, it wouldn't be a problem.
As someone who tries to avoid drama you still see it or your other fandom friends are effected by it.

I don't...understand. Just how bad are these battles? I was in a pretty bad ship war years ago, where people were hacking each other's sites and shit, and even then there were still calm corners where you could peacefully ship your ship with like-minded shippers.

That sounds vaguely horrifying, OP. And now I'm really curious about what the fandom and ship is. I'm not aware of any big AtLA/Harry Potter/Buffy-sized shipwars going on atm...

Let me introduce you to OUAT and Teen Wolf, both of which has some absolutely fabulous shipwars. Neither have reached the level of HP or BtVS, YET.

I don't watch either show and I'm not in either fandom, and I still see the ship wars crop up on my Tumblr dash.

If I had to guess, I'd say this secret is about OUAT because that one had two rival hetships going head-to-head in canon, and one of the ships did win out.

My advice to the OP? Ship a rare pair (see icon for mine). That way, everyone leaves you alone.
