Of all of these, I have only seen Mad Men, but I like it.

Some shows have similar sensibilities. They are a gift to fic writers who enjoy crossovers and fusions.

Ha. That is great. New head canon.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-08 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! That is immediately what I thought of. Nice.

Yup, was going to mention that Merle had some of the blue meth in his bag. I hadn't caught it the first time I watched S2, since I hadn't seen any of Breaking Bad.

I don't know "raise hell" but could the connection be that people in these universes are morally grey at the very least - going on bad? I think that's the thing, really: while the settings are different, the characters could work in each universe.

The show is called Hell on Wheels and it's about building the transcontinental railroad across the US.

Hell on Wheels definitely fits into this head canon. It would be the first you should watch, followed by Mad Men, Breaking Bad/ The Killing and end it TWD.

I only watch HoW and (used to watch) The Killing, and their main characters are always morally ambiguous/complex.

This is such a cool idea. They do have a similar feel.

That is an amusing unified theory, not unlike the idea I had a few years ago that the Alien/Predator franchises shared a universe with Avatar (the blue cat people movie, not the cartoon) and Blade Runner. Could you elaborate?

OP

Mainly the gritty feel and morally complex characters each series has makes it more believable for me that they could take place in the same universe. It's also enough where certain characters that stand out can come across as past relatives of other characters, but not resemble anything too closely where it loses the sense of fantasy. That and they all take place in relatively close timelines, but still far apart enough to not clash too much with each other. Also someone said it before me, but I sort of had this headcanon that the blue crystal meth is what started the zombie apocalypse, though I'm also satisfied with the crossover headcanon that Gray Matter Technologies has a big screw up and the reason the apocalypse happened was because Walter wasn't around to help them fix it before it was too late.

Meh. I can't see it.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-09 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Love it. I only like Breaking Bad & The Killing of these but I fucking live those. This headcanon delights me.

* Love, not live. I neither cook drugs nor solve murders.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-09 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ha!

I enjoy this headcannon. It's probably true for many networks that have a strong person or group involved in choosing their programming.

Also, Mad Men FTW.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-09 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
That's a neat crossover/headcanon idea! I can imagine, since the shows have some similarities and they're from one network.

I tend to do the same thing, but with show creators instead, like the Fullerverse for example.

Also, I have this headcanon that The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Brooklyn 99 are within the same universe because of the creators and writers.

If you go by the times the shows are based in, I can see how it would feel like they're set one after the other in the same universe, because, essentially, they are, even if by different people. Being on the same network would add to that as well.
