(Anonymous) 2014-09-09 04:05 am (UTC)(link)I agree! She was still flat, but she had things like her funny nerdiness and her her own circle of associates, like Darcy, that weren't connected to Thor. Natalie Portman's acting was terrible, but man I still have so much affection for Jane, and have read some great fanfic featuring her.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-09 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)SMH when people say this
I wonder if people ever watched the series or they're projecting the fandom idea of the characters.
The other Uhura wasn't developed at all. New Uhura is more prominent and we see her having feelings and agency and she had only 2 movies, unlike the version by Nichelle Nichols who had a whole television series and a couple of movies but never became more than a background character. She has no character development whatever, they wouldn't even tell us her name or that she was a xenolinguist.
I'm saying this because I loved Uhura. In fact, I even read the biography by Nichelle Nichols and what I'm saying here is the same opinion the actress had of the character.
