COOKIE THREAD

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2014-09-09 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I just bought some Tim Tams for the first time today, because I realized I had never tried them and they are some quintessential English thing supposedly. So I decided to try to culture myself a little, junk food wise.

They weren't bad, but they weren't great either. Way too sweet for my liking. I wound up wishing I had just made a batch of dried cranberry shortbread with my other purchase and called it a day.

So f!s, I ask you, what's your favorite cookie?

oatmeal raisin, mmmm

Re: COOKIE THREAD

Tim Tams are Australian, though. If you want quintessentially English, you'll need to go for a rich tea biscuit, digestives, jammy dodgers, jaffa cakes or something like that.

Re: COOKIE THREAD

(Anonymous) 2014-09-09 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've never heard of TimTams. OP needs some chocolate digestives to dunk in their tea, stat.

lol Well I just assumed since they're stuck into the import foods section next to the Rich Tea, Ginger Nuts, etc. But then the Polish stuff is right next to that so...

Oatmeal chocolate chip. Same buttery taste as regular chocolate chip cookies but with a heartiness that makes it better for me.

Butterscotch oatmeal cookie! I know of only one place that makes them, downtown at the city market. Oh they are a treat!

Chocolate chip. Or if I don't mind the calories, oatmeal no bake cookies.

Ah, what a shame. I love Tim Tams, though they are on the sweet side. For commercially available cookies, I'd have to go with Thin Mints (or their cheaper Keebler grasshopper cousins), those Keebler elf sandwich cookies (oh god help me I've eaten them all) and Dare coconut sandwich cookies. Oh! McVities chocolate and caramel biscuits, chocolate hob nobs, Fox's ginger lemon cream cookies...

For homemade, chocolate chip, or... okay, anything chocolate.

Ginger lemon cream sounds like something I need in my life.

Arcoiris. They're mexican, I guess, and they're basically marshmallow covered in coconut on a vanilla cookie.

Pizzelles. Oh dear gods, how I love them. But they kind of have to be made by this one specific person, whom I doubt I'm ever going to see again. :(

Tim tams quintessentially... English?

*wraps self in the Australia flag and jumps in a river*

Also, if you think the milk chocolate ones are too sweet, you should try dark chocolate Tim Tams. They might be just right for you.

Chocolate chip cookies. The crunchier the better.

I'm American and I fucking love Tim Tams. But generally, I like homemade more than store-bought, especially the quintessential chocolate chip.

Macadamia cookies.

Milano cookies.

Chocolate chip.

Snickerdoodles. My mom makes some great snickerdoodles. I have simple tastes.

Store cookies, I like those pink and white frosted animal cookies. I could eat those all day.

Cranberry and white chocolate shortbread cookies. I unfortunately only have time to make them around Christmas time, though, so they're absolutely a holiday cookie. Also good with dark chocolate drizzle, or raspberry instead of cranberry.

Dessert bars >>>>>>>>>>>> cookies

that said, really good peanut butter cookies are almost as good as dessert bars

These cookies my aunt makes that are 7 layer bars without butterscotch chips. Delicious chocolate and coconut and walnuts and mmmmm, now I want one.

As for store-bought cookies, I'll go with Cadbury Fingers. My favorite cookies basically involve anything with chocolate.

oh man. I love snickerdoodles, sugar cookies, and oatmeal raisin cookies. I love buttermilk jumbles. I love sweet potato cookies with peanut butter icing (a recipe my mom got years ago from a friend). I love soft ginger cookies.

I'm not sure I could say I have a favorite. But I really love all of those.

Oh, and Girl Scout cookies. Samoas are the best, but Trefoils, Tagalongs, and frozen Thin Mints are up there as well.

Probably chocolate chip cookies, but stuffed.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-10 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
I love them plain, but I adore them in combination with other things - oreo stuffed chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip cookie stuffed oreos, peanut butter cup stuffed chocolate chip cookies, chocolate truffle filled chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cream filled chocolate chip cookies, cream cheese filled chocolate chip cookies.

I also love cream cheese stuffed snickerdoodles and white chocolate stuffed ginger cookies and homemade oatmeal cream pies.

My roommate's cookies. Chocolate chip, peanut butter, "breakfast," what have you, they are always amazing. And their reputation precedes them. ;)

I will always and forever be lovers with the chocolate chip cookie. It needs to be a little chewy but also just a bit crunchy and I LOVE IT when there are different kinds of chocolate chunks/chips in the mix. No nuts, though. Nuts ruin it IMO.
