Just how old are you precisely?

24 , but stuck living there , tied down by lack of ability to drive (was never permitted to learn) and some major medical issues.

My psychologist told my mom when I was 17, (autistic , majorly depressed due to being bullied heavily and having severe OCD) that I "should not drive" or something and ever since driving has never been an option. I have a neighbor who has Asperger Syndrome and does drive so I'm starting to doubt that my AS prevents me from being fit to drive.

Man that sucks about being stuck under your parents roof. I hope you find a way out of there.

I've never had that thought about you until your comment about your Mom. Taking the internet away was a common punishment for me when I was a teenager. Until then I would have guessed early twenties.

Tough love time: You're too old to let your parents push you around like this. Yes, there's a degree of their house, their rules but they're clearly taking it to am unhealthy extreme.

I know but unfortunatley in this house when they think I"m not listening to them they get my attention

by taking things away. They've even threatened to shut my power off. *sigh* Because they go by the "it's OUR house and we get respect". Which isn't bad by itself...but when you go to some level where your kid can't wear pants OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE(to work) that you don't like because YOUR house and "RESPECT MEH AUTHORITAY" or whatever. Then its too far.

*sighs* and half the time I'm doubting if I'm in the right for being upset or come across as a brat or selfish.

I wish I KNEW how to get out.

Is there any way for you to learn to drive? I feel like there might be some sort of legal recourse for that, since isn't it your right as an adult to do so? Is there a bus that goes near your place of work so you can move out and support yourself while you're learning? I know that may not be feasible, but it's worth considering if you haven't.

I'm 24, live with my folks, and am currently actively searching for full-time jobs so I can leave (I work part-time and will start paying rent very soon, per our agreement). I wasn't planning on staying here this long, but I know it won't be that much longer. I kinda feel you on the whole "it's MY HOUSE" thing since I think my mom does sometimes use that as leverage in inappropriate ways, but it's not nearly to the extreme as your folks. I'd be so mad.

Anyway, it doesn't sound like you're being bratty at all, from what you've told us at least - you just want to be able to make normal adult decisions about your life. They're treating you like a child, and how are you ever going to be independent if they won't treat you like an adult? I hope you're able to get away soon and have a healthier relationship with your folks from a financially independent distance.

TBH for me it just makes me feel kinda...powerless. It's frustrating.

They can be.

Their ideas of how to deal with an adult kid who can't move out aren't that great.

(Protip: "You're 18 you don't HAVE to stay here" isn't the way to do it)
