Um...I wouldn't. not if I TOLD people that I was going to spend it on THIS thing.

The honest thing to do is either find a way to use it for what I promised to use it for or find a way to give it back.

Geeze I kinda thought this was common knowledge. It's an honesty thing. If people donate a bunch of money to someone believing that they're going to do this one thing with it and they pocket it...that's called fraud.

Being a woman and having a cause doesn't exempt you from being honest with money.

(this kind of thing is why I avoid asking for donations of money for anything with out earning it, TBH)

It's only fraud if the person with the money doesn't also do what they promised. She's making videos, but a portion of that money, at least, has to go to overhead and living expenses. It's not like she took the money and ran off to some tropical island.

Of course it's an honesty thing but spending 160,000 on making Youtube videos? Isn't it a waste of money? Even if she started doing vids about feminism in other media, feminist issues in general, etc, till she's 80 years old, she'd still be left with a huge sum of money.

At this point it would be easier to simply donate it to some good cause or spend it in a way that promotes feminism. Cause Youtube gamer videos ain't it.

Eh. It still bothers me that she KEEPS ASKING even when she has enough. That's what gets me. She's STILL asking.

and not improving her videos or delivering ALL of the ones she promised to boot. It's one thing to make all the videos she promised and then ask for more but from what I saw she still hasn't done like most of what she promised NOR has she improved the quality.

I get what you're saying, I do. But it also makes me wonder how she could improve her videos beyond, what, having different fancy backgrounds every minute and using some expensive vidding program or something. Basically cosmetic changes/a visual make-over. It doesn't make that much of a difference in the end.

The camera she's using is fine, the lighting and sound are good, etc. She doesn't need to rent an actual studio to record in. What else are people asking for here, really? Interviews with gaming industry professionals? I doubt the big companies would send a representative to get interviewed LOL. They're not exactly her biggest fan.

Then why did she need the kickstarter in the first place? I mean, as it stands, she could have easily made these videos pre-kickstarter, I mean there's loads of average joes working full time with their own youtube channel and a lot of youtube celebrities started out doing just that.

Supposedly it was so that she could (a) improve quality and (b) actually buy the games/gaming systems.

But, if she has actually bought the games/gaming systems, there's no evidence of it in her games, especially when she uses other people's footage.

I guess. I honestly think she should just actually BUY the games she's reviewing to play (or rent them) and stuff. I wouldn't have as much of a problem if she BOUGHT the games she was playing but getting all that money and not even getting the game feels like a waste to me.

They're asking she actually fucking do what she promised. That is, buy the fucking games she's reviewing and the systems to go with them like she promised. There's no evidence she has, meaning all that money has been pocketed.

There's no evidence she hasn't bought them/played them either. You can't prove that she's actually lying and so there's no fraud conviction in her future, so all this complaining is moot. Does she make crappy videos? Absolutely, but that's the problem with investing in someone: no guarantee you'll get what think you deserve, only a guarantee you'll get what was promised.

true, absence of evidence and all that, however, the arrangement was we give her money and she buys games to improve the quality of her videos. We then don't see the games or evidence thereof and as pointe out, the quality did not and could not be improved. this leaves room for two conclusion:

1. She bought the games and game systems but did not use them for the purpose she suggested, and in the place where evidence of these games might reasonably be expected to be found, there is uncredited free material provided by someone else who did buy the game in spite of no overfunded kick-starter.
If this case is true, what precisely did we give her money for? I'd like to have legions supporters funding my gaming collection without having to give them even a hint of evidence of the game.

2. She didn't buy the games. She instead headed down to TJ for the weekend. consumed various types of narcotic and hooker, returned home and churned out the same stuff she was doing before she performed Anita Sarkeesians great TJ adventure. I'd like to have legions supporters funding my debauchery without having to give them even a hint of evidence of my VD.

A lot of the way she talks about games that I know tells me she's never actually played them, and instead just watched a bunch of footage to get a basic gist.

Well a good start would be to buy, and play, and have her own experiences for the games she's discussing.
She can't play the video games herself? She now has money enough to get some collaboration. Pay someone to play the games while she watches and forms her opinions from first hand experiences rather than rhetoric and screenshots.

Anyone else really want to see Anita's own version of a Lets play rather than her reading tvtropes over footage of some stolen footage?

no see, that's dumb. I have no problem with her making money from this.

But her videos looked exactly the same. If she got hte system, if she got the new camera, if she did any of that stuff, it didn't show. It looks like the few thousand that was her goal was never spent on that (or she's really really bad at using it)

But if she had done all that, spent her 6000 (I think that's what it was) and then spent the other thousands on herself, well, whatever. People could see her kickstarter funds bar, they kept giving anyway. But the fact she didn't even do that amount she said she would is either insulting or at best a sign those funds were not given to the right person.
