I am also like this. there are ships I hate (for their gross mischaracterisation of characters and fucking up the canon, mostly, plus they can get annoying because of the fans), and while I'm usually okay with avoiding them, sometimes they just get to me. if I read a cool fic and it 'betrays' me this way, I feel really shitty, especially, you know, if it's a hard day's night and I wanted a piece of comfort. and idgaf if someone thinks it's 'pathetic'. judge away.

Yeah, I'm really annoyed by some of these comments. Like, drama queen? Really? Some people are just emotional people. I wasn't aware that there was anything wrong with that.

When you literally feel like you're going to throw up and have anxiety attacks when something in a fanfic doesn't go the way you hoped then I think that's the point when being "emotional" becomes detrimental. God knows how they react to an actual crisis in real life.

This. Announcing that you read a fic with a pairing you don't like and are now going to throw up is ridiculous hyperbole at best. "Emotional people" don't vomit because they read something that doesn't have their ship in it.

I am a very reserved person in real life and work really well under huge pressure, so few things can shake me up. NOTPs are one of them. idk why's that.

This!! It makes me wonder if they can handle life and real life problems if they can't handle something that happened in a fanfic.

I do OK under pressure at work, but once I come home I barely have capacity left to deal with any disruptions at all - and that energy always manages to get used up on real life disruption like surprise bills from two years back etc. There's just ... not a whole lot left by the time I'm actually done with my must-dos of the day.

Because I know this about myself, I take some precautions before engaging with media most of the time - that means generally devouring the entirety of an author's body of work once I figure out I like what they write, and re-reading stuff I already know when I have a particularly rough day.

I don't think it's the feelings you have that anons are griping about, it's the public meltdown. It's one thing to be really disgusted with the way something you read, see, watch, or play turned out and to feel viscerally about it; it's another to publicly shake and cry about it until the virtual buttpats come rolling in.
