I admit that there are some NOTPs that really give me the squick (incest ships being the big one), and I generally stay out of that end of the fandom pool because I get the whole MKINYK deal. But more than once I've hit the big last-minute switcher-oo and my NOTP with squick elements suddenly comes into play.
And yeah, it pissed me off. Granted, not enough to have me ranting, raving, and reaching for a cup of tea "to calm down."

LOL really OTT
Then again it's been my experience that people in fandom or on the internet (or both) can act REALLY PATHETICALLY over the top because they read something once that they didn't like.
*looks at watch and waits for my little buddy*

But hey, she may actually be batshit over her pairings. Stranger things have happened.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)Either that, or there's some mental health issue going on. I had a friend like that: super funny and fun to be around, except that she was bipolar and when she crashed, she crashed HARD. You couldn't say a damn thing that wouldn't offend her, everything made her psychotically angry, and because she was smart and observant she would say some truly ugly shit if she thought you were "judging" her in any way. And by judging, I mean declining to hang around for more abuse.
Note: I'm not saying all bipolar people are like this, I know they're not. My friend wasn't managing her condition well.

If it were a friend, though, and they were letting something like that greatly affect their life, I'd be tempted to slap them around a bit.
Straw that breaks the camel's back?
IDK, I've burst into tears once when the pizza was five minutes late, because I was already so upset that my car had to be taken in for repairs. The pizza delivery boy probably thought I was nuts. It sounds like you only know this person from the internet, so you might not have the whole story.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)It does crack me up when a fic doesn't go the way people expect it to. There was a chaptered fic in my fandom that was somewhat popular, but something happened in it that people didn't like or expect based on how the story was going. The author got a lot of backlash from it and eventually deleted the fic. It was some good wank to watch.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)Things that can legit trigger people can lead to this reaction.
That sounds over the top to me, but…
(Anonymous) 2014-09-21 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)Maybe she does it because fans/friends support and encourage the behavior.
Maybe (somehow) she has got the idea in her head that that’s just how she should behave.
Maybe she’s just incredibly overdramatic.
Maybe she has behavioral issues.
Maybe it’s cathartic for her.
Maybe she has fun stirring other people up.
Whatever the reason, if it really bothers you (and I don't blame you for that), maybe you should unfollow.

It could be attention seeking behavior, but it could also be a legit neurological thing. Or it could be both. I'm not qualified to say. If you enjoy the good stuff, my best advice is to just skip past the next bout of histrionics as best you can and try to ignore the behavior. You don't need to be the one providing pats and cuddles when things go wrong, but if this is someone with actual problems, you also don't have to be the one providing a slap in the face-- for some people, being told to get it together is only going to lead to more tears, and it doesn't matter how well-meaning you are, or how much the other person needs to fix something in their life.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-22 01:01 am (UTC)(link)Maybe you should reconsider if it's worthy following her; following a very dramatic person can be draining on the long run. I think you should value your mental health here.
Depends on the NOTP
(Anonymous) 2014-09-22 01:01 am (UTC)(link)The BNF may have just been being over-dramatic, but I don't think we have enough information to assume that from this secret alone.
