Fandom Secrets revisited

[personal profile] dancing_clown 2014-09-23 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
All secrets in this post were still live when I saved them. If a secret is yours, and you don't want it here, delete it from your hosting site, and leave a comment here (anon if you like). When I've confirmed it's gone from the original secret, I'll delete it from mine. I know that probably seems like a lot of work, but given the anonymous nature of secrets, I can't just take any anon at their word when they say "That was mine, please delete."

But really, wouldn't it be more fun, OPs, if you popped back in with an update? If you've been here from the start, it's been seven years. Do you still feel the same and find it secret-worthy, or has time changed your mind or made the once scandalous seem tame?

Let's get to it.

WARNING: Some secrets are not work safe, and may contain spoilers, triggers, and other unpleasantness.

Gremlins scared me as a kid, too. Now I just love it.

What kind of person would drag their five year old kicking and screaming to watch a horror film... Damn.

I never found Gremlins to be scary myself though, and I thought Gizmo was adorable. (Had a Gizmo plushie at one point, too. Wish I still did!)

I was terrified of this movie as a kid. Watched it again in college and didn't understand why I was so scared in the first place (I was 3 or 4 the first time I saw it on TBS almost every night for a week)

People still hate these two right? I totally empathize with this secret on so many levels.

Yep. For the most part, female KH characters still get a lot of hate.

They still get a lot of bashing, but they've also gotten a lot more fans in the past couple of years. I think this is, in part, due to the overall change of climate in fandom that has made it less cool to bash female characters for no reason. Obviously it still happens, but overall it's much less common that it was in most fandoms around five-15 years ago. I think they'll get a much more positive reception when KH 3 comes out than they did when KH 1 and 2 did, even if they'll always have some haters.

Still better than the current layout.

It does look pretty funny, but I kind of miss it if only because at least you didn't have to connect your google account to youtube in order to do anything

Wow, just look at that old youtube layout.

I find it amusing that the only place you see that layout around anymore is on porn sites that were originally copying Youtube and haven't kept up with the times.

It's different now?

Re: Remember how YouTube used to look?

I miss when YouTube was for fangirls and had fun fanvids and stuff, instead of banning all the fanvids for copyright violations (nevermind that a LOT of my favorite songs were discvered through fanvids) and having stupid parents telling their kids they ate all their Halloween candy.

What? I can miss nerd!internet.

Sept. 15, 2013 (suicide warning)

[personal profile] feotakahari 2014-09-23 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I've lost the really old ones. My first image host got infested with viruses, and I think it later shut down.

Anyway:

I just checked her blog. Her story-writing has almost completely stopped, but she's still posting self-pitying blog posts, and people are still telling her that she's a good person and she shouldn't be so hard on herself. I'm so glad I got out.

I was in a similar situation... I had to get out. It feels callous but honestly, you have to think of y our own mental health.
