Re: What characters do you feel the most protective of?
(Anonymous) 2014-09-25 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)For some of the the ones I'm more passionately protective of, though:
Waldo Butters (Dresden Files), James Rhodes (MCU), JARVIS (MCU), Leonard H. McCoy (Trek TOS), Mary Watson (Downey!Holmes), Jonathan Carnahan (The Mummy), Molly Grue (Last Unicorn), Boris Dolokhov (Girl Genius), Simon Illyan (Vorkosigan Saga), and Harold Finch (Person of Interest). Nothing permanent is allowed to happen to any of these people. They are immortal and will live forever and everything will be fine, so help me.
vague Vorkosigan spoilers?
"Nothing permanent is allowed to happen to any of these people"
oh no now I'm sad about 'Memory' all over again
(Great choice though, I love Simon so much. I don't think I realised how much he'd grown on me until reading that book, which made it both all the more enjoyable and all the more brutal.)
Re: vague Vorkosigan spoilers?
(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)By 'permanent' I mostly meant death, though yes. Sometimes I sort of pretend that Memory never happened, because on top of it being Simon, it's also kind of a personal nightmare of mine. *shudders* I don't pretend for long, because it's an excellent book and you can't just ignore things of that magnitude, but ...
But he's not dead. That's the important part. He's not dead, and he came back with as much of a bounce as he could (with help), and he's still Simon. Heh.
(I kind of glommed onto Simon in Shards of Honor, actually, because of private judgements and being 'a little bit pregnant', but he's sort of my fictional type, so I wasn't particularly surprised. He's wonderful though. Always.)
