Eh, I'm big into the art part of fandom, and I have to say for all the crap it gets and it's shitty business model, I preferred dA to tumblr. It had more of a community feeling for me. Pretty much everyone's ditched it for tumblr, so I ended up leaving too. I never had issues with the obxinous userbase the place is known for either.

DA does have a really obnoxious userbase at times but I agree with you mainly because DA has a better messaging system in every way possible. They have private inboxes with messages you can archive, forums, comments with the ability to reply to the comment thread, and best of all they let you control how and what you watch of people and I find the thumbnails a lot easier to scroll through then full posts which means I can follow a lot more people on DA then on tumblr.

Even for visual art organization and the ability to message people properly is really important, in fact I rely upon that for my business.

The only thing I like about tumblr is that reblogging means my art can get around pretty quickly, but otherwise it's not great.

The dA favorites system is way better too. I can't deal with endlessly scrolling to find that one thing I liked forever ago on tumblr.

Eh?

This comment feels weird to me. Maybe it's different for other fandoms, but the MLP fandom is hugely concentrated on Deviantart. I feel like it's much easier to find large quantities of good art on Deviantart than on Tumblr.
