Cutesy cussing.

Frick, heckie, and all that shit. Just say it.

Re: Stupid things to get mad over

(Anonymous) 2014-09-27 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I can understand kids doing it, but adults? That's just ridiculous.

Re: Stupid things to get mad over

(Anonymous) 2014-09-27 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
And even then, it depends. i remember being a young teen and rolling my eyes when stuff aimed at my age group would replace "bitch" with "witch" because come on - I know what you mean. I think it would be easier for me to not hear "bitch" now, honestly.

Er, depends on the situation.

When I worked for VoldeMart, I could get written up for swearing outright.

So when I'd slice my finger or stub my toe, out would come the "Fudge!" and "Sugar Corn Pops!"

Adults who work around kids, especially other people's kids, have good reason to get in the habit of non-swearing swearing.

I work in an office and represent my state's government. You will never catch me cussing at work, although "what the heck" comes up a lot.

Adults in professional settings try not to cuss, though--it's just good practice.

I've never even heard a kid say that one.

To add to that, I don't really get people who try making insults unoffensive. Like not saying bitch because it's a misogynistic slur, but use something like pissbaby or shitlord instead. It's supposed make you mad, not laugh your ass off.

In a certain context I think a humorous insult can be more effective, but I know what you mean.

"Shitlord" does make me giggle, ngl.

I have occasionally said "son of a beachball."

... to be fair I got it from somewhere and I thought it was funny.

That makes me irrationally angry. It's hard to describe how much it gets on my nerves, but it's on multiple levels, some of which are very deep.

I live in Utah where we don't even say "Oh my God." We say "Oh my heck."

Oddly enough, I've gotten used to it.

My mom currently says 'whoopie-ding'. It gets rather annoying, but she has dementia so who knows what she'll say next.

I'll admit, I'm one of those people.

Had a sibling born in my pre-teens, so I got used to moderating my language around him and it stuck. Habits are hard to break gosh darn it to heck!

Re: Stupid things to get mad over

(Anonymous) 2014-09-27 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I say "oh my gosh" in casual exclamation over "oh my god" which is reserved for more serious situations. It's honestly just natural to me. Same with "what the heck." I'm not a prude about swearing, but I also don't care to swear mildly.

I love the swearing. Cutesy, rude, vulgar. Gimme all your cussing.

It all depends on where that person is though. When I'm around certain members of family, work, little kids, etc..., "oh fudge muffins" is my swear of choice. (Been trying to work "monkey feathers" in for the past 7 years; unfortunately it's never stuck.)

When I'm not limited by that though, it's "oh fucking god dammit it to hell" every fourth sentence.

I hate it. It makes adults sound like giant babies.

Some of us aren't comfortable swearing, though. I like having alternatives.

Re: Stupid things to get mad over

I do say it. I say "frick" or "heckie". When I mean "fuck" I say "fuck". Sometimes I mean "frick". You wouldn't say "blue" when you meant "red", would you? Would you? I rest my case.

...am I the only one ITT who thinks it can be far more effective to NOT swear... but just say plainly, bluntly, what you think? I'm not saying it's better, it's never good to say anything when you are angry, but one can say far worse things than curse words.

Mind, I'm talking about dealing with people; personally, I have been rather infamous in my past, for routinely questioning the parentage of inanimate objects. Make of that what you will.

my roommate sometimes says "pickles" instead of swearing. I think he sounds like a fool when he does this.
