There is like zero real back and forth on tumblr, someone states an opinion and someone will often disagree not even thinking that they are talking to a person and then you'll have all these different reblogs of people yelling over each other.

Tumblr has some good thought pieces at times but it also has a lot of misinformation that gets hard to correct once it's been reblogged and terrible arguments that just go nowhere.

i actually wrote a blog post about how this anime disappointed me (started out strong but the many tone shifts bothered me) and it got posted to tumblr (i set it up that way so people can read it & comment on it since it's primarily a figure blog).

and someone told me that if i disliked it so much, i shouldn't be posting in the tag with it because it might hurt someone's feelings. i was really confused because first of all dislike =/= disappointed and ???? why would someone be upset at a very mild criticism towards this anime?

I think it's just because most people want the tags to be a more positive place. I would have been a little annoyed to see your post in a tag that I like.

Yeah, but that basically leads to the death of discourse. It basically comes down to a circle jerk where everyone squees over how wonderful everything is. Which people have the right to do. But tags are meant to designate when you're talking ABOUT something right? Not just if you're saying only good things. I'm all for having pro and anti tags, but I think a general tag should be neutral and include everything -- hate, gushing, criticism, analysis, meta, everything.

What's the point otherwise?

It's easy enough to create a "pro" tag if you ONLY want good things. Otherwise the fandom just ends up fracturing.

i can understand that feeling but at the same time, i wasn't bashing anyone who liked it or called anyone nimrods for liking it. it's an analysis on why it was disappointing to me as someone who liked it initially.
