Anything else like Pokemon? Either where a big part of it is collecting things or with cute little creatures or something. I don't know, I'm not a gamer but I love Pokemon. If there's any kind of fighting it can't be real time because I'm a wimp and that stresses me out too much.

Animal Crossing, maybe? You live in a town with a bunch of cute anthromorphic animals and can collect things for the local museum. The gameplay isn't similar, but it's slowpaced and very unstressful.

I've heard of Animal Crossing but never bothered to find out anything about it. I'll look into it now. Thanks.

Well it isn't new, and you might have to emulate it, but Keitai Denju Telefang (referred to as Pokemon Diamond and Jade) is reminiscent of pokemon a bit, and there is a sorta English translation of it, since I've played a bit of it. JonTron talks about it in this video (if I get the address right it should start at the point he begins talking with it, but if it doesn't it starts at 7:57) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zJD9B0za9k#t=477

Thanks for the link. I've looked at some interesting Pokemon hacks but I didn't know anything about the bootleg games.

Boy do I have the game for you! It's called Ni no Kuni. Animated by Studio Ghibli, in fact. It's more plot centric than Pokemon but pretty much involves exploring and running around "capturing" and raising monsters.

That looks great!

I played it on a console though actually I think they might have made a 3DS version, if that's all you play, but I don't know how similar to the original game it is. Very lovely game, can't recommend it enough1

The 3DS version was Japan-only, iirc. But seconding the rec for sure!

Seconding this rec. Ni no Kuni is fantastic!

I haven't played it, but I've heard secondhand about a Pokemon-esque game called Fossil Fighters. It might be worth looking up.

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker. Not so big on "cute" and "little" but some of the later dragons are just gorgeous.

It's turned based like Pokemon. You collect monsters. Main difference is that rather than catching and leveling/evolving and breeding copies of the ones you have, you evolve by combining two monsters into one. And most of the rarest, strongest monsters you can only get by planning out like 5 different evolution chains in advance. I think I got, like, the second strongest dragon in the game before I realized I was just grinding to grind.

It's a pretty short game, but still fun. Highly recommend it.

They've also made a sequel since then, so you might want to check that one out instead. Or both. Or whatever.

Dragons are great too! And that style of evolution sounds really interesting. I'll definitely look into this.

I like to call the Shin Megami Tensei series 'Pokedemon', because it does have the same 'gotta catch 'em all' aspect to it. The combat is turn-based (depending on the sub-series, the exact nature differs, but it's always some form of turn-based).

The demons certainly aren't all cute (they range from cute, to creepy, to frigging weird, in various proportions, depending on the subseries, again), but a big part of the gameplay is collecting them (how they're collected changes, again, by subseries).

Since you mention Pokemon, I assume you have a DS? In which case, I suggest the Devil Survivor games (DS is my second favourite DS game, DS2 is a solid followup.)...The other DS installment, Strange Journey (part of the main series, though not following the numbering), is also great. (I don't have a 3DS, so I can't comment on SMTIV. The Persona (which are only available on various Playstation systems, to be clear) games are fine, but not as good as DS or the main series, IMO.)

I do indeed have a DS. I'll look into those.

Fair warning: Mega Ten is one of the few mons series where you actually kill enemy mons. Also, you generally can't pick up "favorite" mons and keep raising them--sooner or later, you'll need to fuse them to create more powerful mons. I got uncomfortable with Strange Journey, since I was playing this character who was all "Peace with demons! Demons are people too!" while treating his demons like tools and slaughtering everyone in his way.

This reminds me once I was trying to explain Shin Megami Tensei to someone and ended up with "It's like Pokemon, but instead of Pikachu you use Satan."

spectrobes! it's a ds game where you go on different planets and collect and revive fossils of monsters to help you fight other monsters. you can make them level up and evolve, a bit like pokémon.

Thanks! Wow, there are more of these kinds of games than I thought.

I second Ni no Kuni and Shin Megumi Tenshi. I'd say start with SMTIV as that's the newest game and it's lots of fun if you like collecting monsters and having them "breed."

I'd also suggest keeping an eye out for Yo-Kai Watch. It hasn't been localized yet, but there is a really good chance it will be. It is heavily influenced by Pokemon.

Thanks. I'll try to remember that Yo-Kai Watch is a thing so I can look out for a translation. It looks cute.
