Feeling Guilty for things you can't help

So, I have a sinus infection. So I was not able to make a meeting with my group and the professors for a class. Another person in my group did something to his leg where he was barely able to walk and needed to go to the doctor. The professor sent the group an angry email about how "this was a problem."

Now I'm feeling guilty even though I can't help being sick and I have a fever and really couldn't have gone in. I do that all the time, though. I always feel guilty about things, even if I can't help them.

Anyone else have the same problem?

I really want wartime fanfic. AUs are good, but I'd really love it if it was about a character who is canonically in a warzone (or has war backstory). Stuff with characters who are/were soldiers, or supporting army staff, or old timey warriors, or medics, or anything?

Fandoms...I'm in a lot of the big ones (including MCU, btw). And I don't really care if you rec a story from a fandom I'm not in -- some of my favorite fandoms are ones where I only watched the show or movie after sampling some great fanfic.

I'm leaving soon, so I'm probably not going to be able to reply to anything until tomorrow.

A close friend was in a car accident in August. She and her boyfriend were hit head on by a drunk driver. She's going to be ok, we don't know just how much she will be able to recover, but she is going to be out of work for possibly a long time. Her boyfriend is in a better state than her. The drunken asshole got out with only a fucking fractured ankle. I want to track him down ans punch him in the ball sack so hard he will know what his own testicles taste like. That however is not the reason I am so angry right now.

My friend got home yesterday, feeling very sick, and running a low grade fever. Apparently her family thought is was appropriate to just drop her off and home and go on their merry fucking way. She doesn't have a home phone so she depends on her cell, and Facebook. At around 7 pm last night Mom got a message from her saying she needed help. She was home alone,(Though a another friend had also arrived before we got there.) and had no way to get to an ER if she needed to. So Mom and I packed some stuff and headed to her place. I stayed the night with her, Mom, and her other friend went home. While we were all there her Mom Skiped(I have no idea how to spell that.), and suggested she check her temperature, but my friend didn't have a thermometer, and none of us had thought to bring one. Friend's Mom called Friends older brother who showed up, dropped the thermometer off with barely a word and just walked right the fuck back out.(Her fever was thankfully gone BTW.)So I stayed the night, and Mom spent the day with her today since apparently she has the shittiest family ever.
I'm going to be heading over to take the "night shift" in about half an hour. We're going keep doing this as long as she us to. For once I am completely grateful I don't have a job right now. I am just so angry her family was just going to leave her there alone like that!

I... I think Tumblr just kinkshamed me.

I'm supposed to travel next week (US, flying from the west coast to the east) for a family affair, but I'm seriously considering canceling due to all this Ebola nonsense. Rationally I know that the risk is incredibly low, but I kind of don't even want to chance it. I was already on edge since I'm a total homebody and I don't really like to travel, but now...I don't know.

Anyone else feeling irrationally worried about things you logically shouldn't be?

Turns out she's just sick and feeling really crappy, which is not good news, but I'm still relieved that our friendship is okay. I hope she feels better soon.

Me, I just found out that over the past three months, my A1C (a blood glucose test that looks at the big picture) dropped from 6.7 to 6.5. Also my cholesterol and other chemistry stuff is all right where it should be. My blood pressure was a little high, but I think that's just because the person who was taking it was kind of incompetent. But since this is the good things thread, I won't dwell on that. Doc didn't seem worried.

Can anyone rec me a website or other resource that deals with psychology that they've found helpful when writing stories?

My MC goes through paranoia, sleep dep, high stress and social isolation and then I want them to improve. The influence of these issues on their thoughts is responsible for several bad decisions that further the plot so I want to get this right.

Does anyone else need rec on where to find info about a topic? Any interesting info people have recently found? 'Everything' is helpful :)

Has anyone ever written slash or femslash fic of this scenario?

I know this has been with het pairings in mainstream media, but how about slash or femslash?:

Character A (lets call him "Alex") and Character B (lets call him "Ben) are best friends. Really, really good friends. Ben is madly in love with Alex, but he's not sure Alex returns his feelings. Ben's feelings are revealed either voluntarily or involuntarily, and it turns out, yes, he was right: Alex doesn't return Ben's romantic feelings. Alex loves Ben to death, would do anything for him, feels that Ben is one of the most important people in his life, but Alex isn't IN love with him.

And it's true. It stays true. It doesn't change. Alex doesn't turn out to be in denial, or repressed, or develop feelings later in the fic. Alex isn't an asshole or a homophobe. He doesn't love Ben any less than Ben loves him. But he has no romantic feelings towards Ben whatsoever. His feelings for Ben are completely platonic and he can't change them, at all.

In any fandom, has there been a fic that explores this scenario? How guilty and upset Alex is about it? How frustrated and mortified Ben is? How they try to save their friendship? Are they extremely awkward and afraid of upsetting each other? Does Ben feel like he can't be friends with Alex anymore because it's too painful? Or does Ben try to squash his feelings and pretend his feelings don't matter, because he's so desperate to save their friendship? Is Alex tempted to pretend to be in love with Ben to spare his feelings? Does he kiss or even sleep with Ben in the hopes that if he tries, he might just turn out to actually have romantic feelings, and then feel incredibly miserable when he really just can't feel that way? Does their friendship survive?

Okay, who here know how to make gloves?

I know there are some cosplayers/sewers out here who knows how to make a decent glove.

I have to make some fingerless gloves for class (and a hat, a brooch, and shoes, but that's another thing all together). I have to make it out of fabric, so I can't just cut of the arms of my long-sleeve shirt or gloves. I don't sew so this is way out of my comfort zone, the only sewing I ever done is some crude plushies. A lot of tutorials are either out of my knowledge zone or doesn't seem to working. I just can't get my pattern big enough.

Does anyone have any tips? And tutorials that they would recommend? Any help in general? I don't know any sew-y people in real life.

I am so sick of "It was the tiiiiiimes" used as an excuse. There were plenty of other people who had more of a clue than Tolkien did, do you think feminism and anti-racism just sprang into existence in the 60s?

You have to look at overall trends and majority attitudes. There are people in every time period who go against the grain and who have more progressive attitudes than the population at large, but they're outliers. Racism and sexism were the norm for Tolkien's time, unfortunately, and the fact that there were some people outside of that norm doesn't change that.
