She's 17 - or, at least, she was when the show was filmed. She is the youngest ever contestant. Under 16s would compete in the junior version of this show

That said, the age of consent in the UK is 16, so the OP's rather grim fantasy would not be illegal

Somehow I just can't imagine a relationship with a huge age gap that isn't full of gaslighting and "pulling rank" and huge angry fights when the younger person won't submit.

Maybe it's because of how much my dad screwed with my mind in some ways. I want to avoid that at all costs in a romantic relationship.

Fwiw,I once dated a gentleman 14 years older than my then 20 year old self, and it was quite probably one of the healthiest, sanest partnerships I've ever had. He was quite a bit more respectful of my needs and limits than most of my other so's, and the only one who never I've pressured me to go beyond what I was comfortable with.

I agree that there are definitely some hazards with that large an she gap, but it can be done in a healthy manner.

That can happen even without an age gap, though I fully understand why you'd be concerned with it given your relationship with your dad. FWIW, there's a 10 year age gap between me and my SO and we're fine.

Define "huge". 15 year gap here (together 30+ years, actually)and nothing could be further from the truth.

Hmm, it's funny the difference perspective makes, because with my neighbors who have a large age gap (maybe 15-20 years, I'm not sure), the younger one is calling the shots and the older one is always having to fall in line (and I think they're pretty much doomed, but that's the long version of the story).

I'd just avoiding painting all age-gap relationship dynamics with the same brush. I personally know some that work very well. Like everything else, it really depends on the people involved.

Well, gosh. Since you had a fucked up relationship with your dad, and since you can't imagine a healthy relationship involving an age gap, that means that everyone else must conform to your standards. Because you are the center of the universe, and we all revolve around you.

I was going to say you're not alone, but it looks like our reasoning is different. I have a great relationship with my father and I think that's a large part of the reason I'm not into much-older men. I see them as paternal figures, and since I already have a great father and have his approval, I have no desire to bring another father figure into my life, even if the guy isn't actually trying to be a replacement "daddy."

Also, I can't help but look at people who are much younger than me in a maternal way (and I'm not so young that people much younger than me are just kids) so I don't really understand how other people can feel otherwise about folks who are young enough to be their own offspring.

These are all positive feelings, they're just not sexy feelings.
