I get what you're saying. There's nothing wrong with drabbles themselves, just the people who do them exclusively. And I agree completely.

People are going on and on about how difficult it is to do a good, cohesive, and meaningful drabble, and I can see where they're coming from, but have you ever attempted to write an novel? It's not even comparable. Continuity in style, atmosphere, tone, plot, characterization, not to mention pacing, can be fucking RIDICULOUS if your aspirations are high. I mean honestly people, be realistic.

Thank you. ^_^ Like I've said, I do write drabbles. I think they can be fun and challenging, but I don't write them exclusively.

It can be all these things that people are defending, difficult, artistic, etc. But hey, sometimes it isn't! Sometimes these people aren't trying. And you're right, you can't compare it to a novel. There's too many other factors.

I think a lot of these people are taking it down to a personal level. "Well I like them, so fuck you!" >_> Yeah, I like them too, and yest, some of them are awesome, but no, I don't feel that I should have to respect people who choose to spit them by the dozen.

People here sometimes like to look for ways to be personally offended.

I'm gonna dissent even more by saying I don't even really like drabbles. I don't have a problem with them and recognize them as a relatively substantial art form that requires thought and effort, but I seriously don't like them. How obnoxious is it to think oh ths premise sounds awesome, open the file, and it's just a hundred damn words.

Give me at least a decent length short story anyday.

Very true. I suppose trying to drive home my point is like screaming through a bull horn at a brick wall. Ain't happening.

But yes, drabbles are ultimately part of a larger whole that someone isn't telling. You can make it as artistic as you want, but it's still part of a whole that you didn't bother to tell. You can only get so haughty about them.
