Nah

I mean, you know, I'm not saying his movies are perfect, but I think this is more or less the point at which we're just stigmatizing pretty much normal human feeling under the title of Nice Guy.

This.

Incest. As long as there's incest.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Jesus Christ, yes. It's gotten really ugly.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
It's kind of funny your image comes from the Ferris Bueller movie, which doesn't fit your theory at all. The only thing Cameron gets is to crash his dad's car.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Right?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
FERRIS DOESN'T DESERVE SLOANE

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Tbh though, Ferris is pretty great.

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. Poor Cameron didn't get much in that movie.

I'm not sure I'm following you.

Because Duckie totally got Andie, right?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
SA - Thought OP meant all of Hughes' movies.

I didn't get this from any of his movies, let alone Ferris Bueller.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I recall more of his movies having a "loser" girl getting the guy she likes than the other way around.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think you had to be there, OP. Those movies reflected a particular time, place and way of thinking, all of which seem to have gone by the wayside.

I saw the film as a teen girl and connected to it. That's not what I got from it at all. Hell, I don't even remember much of the girl parts - but I still crack up at his dad giving him life advice which is pretty much "life is shit and then you die".

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
He made more than one movie.

I know, but they chose to mention the photo was from that set, so clearly that will be my first association.

My favorite one is probably the best example of your issue OP, and the only one I can really think of, because everyone gets what they want/didn't know they wanted.

Some kind of Wonderful is the best illustration.
But Pretty in Pink/ 16 Candles---again, it's the girl getting the guy...there are other movies but...they're fun! And they're fulfilling for people who didn't have the experience (such as myself, thank ye kindly)!!!

Some Kind of Wonderful doesn't fit either, though, because he ends up with his best friend, who was in love with him all along (girl getting the guy), and he loved her. And The Girl decides to go solo for a change.

I’m confused, what movies were you watching?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-06 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
The Breakfast Club – lonely, loser guy does end up with the rich, popular girl, but I wouldn’t call him a Nice Guy, since he wasn’t even pretending to be nice.

Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink - lonely, loser girl ends up with the rich, popular guy (yeah, there’s the side pairing in Sixteen Candles, but it is definitely not the main story and is left a little ambiguous).

Some Kind of Wonderful – I guess it’s kind of lonely, loser girl ends up with the lonely, loser guy more than anything else, with a side order of rich, popular girl going it alone.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – popular guy is already with popular girl and just has an awesome day with her and his lonely, loser best friend.

I could maybe see it with Weird Science, maybe. Is that what you’re talking about?

This! I was trying really hard to think of a film that fit. Didn't help they used a Ferris Bueller shot - Selfish idiot gets the really hot girl, loser friend gets nada.
Pretty in Pink came to mind next where the 'Nice Guy' definitely didn't get the girl!

Not even Weird Science. They try and fill that trope, but their intended sex slave is savvy and smart, hands their asses to them and then they end up with girl next door types from their school. Same perceived social status and age range.

So even the most egregious of the films doesn't really fit.

Again, these were not perceived "nice guys", we all knew they were idiots at the start and they grew emotionally during the film to see girls as people, not things to do their bidding

I haven't seen all his movies but isn't that exactly the opposite of what happens in both Ferris and Pretty in Pink? I wouldn't say Nice Guy applies to either of the kids who get girls in The Breakfast Club either.
