Maybe Rizzoli and Isles?

Tried that and it did work for me for a while, until it became clear that it was never gonna happen (I need a will-they-won't-they where "they won't" isn't the obvious answer) and Angie Harmon's obvious discomfort with it didn't help.

i don't watch the show, but i always felt really bad for r&i fans about the angie harmon situation. you hear about so many actresses in so many shows who are outspoken about how completely up for an actual lesbian relationship they would be, and out of all of them, the r&i fans get saddled with angie harmon.

i hear even the writer of the book series apparently embraces it, yeah?

unfortunate.

Eh, she doesn't want to do it then she doesn't want to do it. I find it refreshing to hear a story about someone in tv/films who doesn't want to do a thing, says that they don't want to do it, and stick to it - especially since most of the behind the scenes stories you hear are the exact opposite.

If they wanted to do a lesbian relationship between the two characters, they should've asked her before they started shooting.

If it turns out that it didn't occur to them until later that they wanted the ladies to get together, then I'm even more impressed with Angie Harmon for sticking to her guns. The pressure to capitulate would've been enormous.

But does she not want to do it because she doesn't think the characters would make a good couple, or does she not want to because she doesn't like the idea of them not being straight? I got the impression it was the latter, and that's not exactly refreshing.

It doesn't matter what her reasons are for not wanting to do it. For her this is a job, one that involves her body and people that she knows seeing her do X, Y, and Z. For her, it's not an opportunity to take a moral or social stance or push her head canon.

The actress was asked to do something that she didn't want to do, she didn't want to, and she said no. Then she made her refusal stick. That's refreshing.

What's less refreshing is the implication that her personal boundaries, none of which were apparently pushed by the original contract that presumably didn't call for lady-on-lady kissing, are less important than the desires of third party spectators.

It's her body, and it's her choice what to do with it.

...except apparently when people want to see her kiss a girl.

i didn't mean to imply angie harmon should be doing things on camera she doesn't feel comfortable doing or that she should be shamed for it. i don't know which part of my comment gave you that idea, but it's definitely not what i meant.

what i meant was that it's unlucky for the r&i fans that producers cast someone who isn't comfortable with her character potentially not being straight, when there are plenty of actresses in this day and age who wouldn't mind the development at all.

Sorry!

I think it was the way the last part of your second sentence worked with the first - specifically the you hear about so many actresses in so many shows who are outspoken about how completely up for an actual lesbian relationship they would be, and out of all of them,.

The bolded bit implies that Angie Harmon is or should be part of the larger set of "actresses up for actual lesbian relationships". The second part - the r&i fans get saddled with angie harmon. - which isn't so bad on its own, suddenly takes on a darker meaning with that bolded bit in front of it.

And, while the bit about the writer being cool with it is super interesting to me (I'm always interested in how writers take adaptions/changes in their work and why), in context with the previous sentence it implies even the original writer is cool with the characters being lesbians! Why can't Angie Harmon get with the program?

Clearly, if you say you didn't mean it that way, then you didn't. (And your second comment was much clearer!) It was just unfortunate wording/phrasing.

oic. your break-down is quite damning, you have a point. i apologize.

i'm ESL and while i think i have an adequate grasp of the language, i'm rarely eloquent in my own mother tongue, it doesn't get better when i switch to english.

There's nothing to apologize for! Everyone messes up. And I love words, so I'm pretty attentive to how they're strung together.

Frankly, your English is really, really good - a lot better than many native English speakers. (Besides, there are some things that you can only learn from a native speaker explaining them to you. I'm trying to learn Spanish and some of the idioms leave me going o_O.) I'm so impressed by you!

Yep, the author of the book is up for it and encourages R/I fanfic. Good for her!
