Maybe Rizzoli and Isles?

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Tried that and it did work for me for a while, until it became clear that it was never gonna happen (I need a will-they-won't-they where "they won't" isn't the obvious answer) and Angie Harmon's obvious discomfort with it didn't help.

That's interesting

I think I'm the opposite tho

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think that's unreasonable at all, OP. It isn't unreasonable to want the sort of dynamic you're interested in for a f/f ship, and I think it's completely okay to want better representation but in the meantime, to like the het ships that already have that dynamic because that's what currently exists. I would like to rec some canon f/f that fits that dynamic, but I can't think of any...

I am surprised, because every other lesbian I've met in fandom is in it for the m/m fic, and could never explain to me why. You at least, answered my question in your secret.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-10 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a lesbian who reads mostly m/m fic, even though my favorite ships are f/f. I do it because my poison of choice is hurt/comfort, but I don't trust most authors to write about female characters being hurt without making it uncomfortable or even vaguely exploitative.

Also, for those of us who got into fandom very young or otherwise before we figured out our sexuality, it may be a habit from when we thought we were straight. (This also sometimes goes for lgbt m/f shippers, though clearly that isn't the case for OP.)

I'm the same! I love that slow burn and wish it extended to the f/f ships I like. The only thing that has come even remotely close to it for me is Rizzoli & Isles and we all know that isn't going anywhere. Le sigh.

Would love to see a f/f Castle, X-Files etc.

There was a Castle fic where Rick was female (Ricki Castle) and Castle/Beckett get together. I think there were a few written for one of the kink memes actually. I can't recall the authors off the top of my head though...

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
*high-fives* I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I think I mostly made this secret to hopefully find like-minded people I could talk to.

For me, the one ship that come even remotely close have been Max and Caroline from 2 Broke Girls, which is unfortunate, as the show is terrible and not one I wanna pimp and recommend to everyone. It really is slim pickings in the femslash world if you're into more than just two ladies kissing.

That's a cool fanfic idea, although IDK if it wouldn't calm my craving seeing as though fanfic has never done much for me. I can't get too attached to a scenario unless it is actually canon. I'm screwed, LOL.

I would love to see a f/f X-Files because that would own

but I wouldn't ship it probably, because I don't ship Mulder and Scully

You may perhaps be interested in watching the entirety of Xena: Warrior Princess, then.

Also, you might want to check out Babylon 5 - it has a lesbian relationship in which the two characters have other love interests and aren't written just to be together. It's not of the 'together forever' type, but you could make it like that in your head/ fanfiction.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, hi me.

[personal profile] anonymous4 2014-11-09 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well the majority of slash fans (they say) are straight women who find something in fictional m/m relationships they don't find in fictional m/f.

You're not doing anything different -- unless you think that slash fans are somehow championing gay rights and that it therefore follows that you are somehow undermining gay rights. Personally, I don't believe the first assertion, so I don't believe the second either.

I've always seen Alex/Olivia from SVU as exactly that kind of slow-burn ship, and there's a ton of fan material out there. But it's pretty clearly not going to happen in canon (in fact, Alex isn't even on the show anymore and the writers totally wasted her on the last go-around) so if you want to see that actually play out on-screen, this is probably not the ship for you.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-11-09 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Alex/Olivia was one of the ships that introduced me to femslash and led to me realizing I was gay, which is ironic, since I tried my darndest to ship them, read all the fanworks and meta, watched all the episodes, and could honestly never see it. They wouldn't fit in that slow burn category for me, anyway, since I'm pretty sure they were unintentional.

fellow lesbo here, personally, I think like 70-80% of het ships are as boring as vanilla ice cream with tofu sprinkles.
I can only really ship het if there's something twisted or uncommon about the relationship.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-10 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a straight chick, and I agree with you whole-heartedly.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-10 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
How are 70-80% of het ships boring?

I think Pretty Little Liars has some interesting F/F slow burn situations going on (Emison, for one...), but the show is on it's fifth season and a hilariously convoluted mess so ... I don't know if I'd recommend it.

Yep, I agree, and other than Xena I can't think of a show to recommend. I mean, I hope Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is going there, but I'm not willing to give it better odds than, say, 3-1. Which isn't terrible odds, but it's not one of those sure things like the best slow burn het ships.

I mean I've definitely had my femslash ships. But I am so longing for the slow burn of will they/won't they of a good canon story. It's a void that needs to be filled.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-10 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
This secret is just reminding me of how desperately I wanted to like Scully femmeslash but was utterly disappointed with the little I found.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-10 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I rarely get into canon femslash, but because they usually come with a lot of closetshaming.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-10 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I can relate (even though I'm asexual) since a lot of my ships, particularily my otps are het. Even though some of my otps became endgame ships, they still had the chemistry set up and built up from there.

I have trouble shipping m/m and f/f because both parties in those ships are too sexualized or fetishized by fans and writers.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-11 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm also a lesbian and I started off with het OTPs as pre-teen. However they quickly became m/m and I haven't gone back.

There are still many het ships I like though, maybe more than f/f pairings. I don't consume enough series with interesting and numerous female characters, I suppose. Then again, when I watched PMMM I thought Homura and Madoka could be interpreted as close friends, and the Kyoko/Sayaka story was just...lame.
